Apparently we are looking to extend his loan spell and are waiting on Leicester to give us the decision http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20295390 from what I've seen he's looked impressive, been what we've needed in our situation a grafter who can put his foot in, be vocal on the pitch and pick a pass when needed. That said I wouldn't be worried if Leicester didn't allow us to keep him. He's been useful but in a very under performing team. In my ideal situation we'd keep him until the start of January and then look elsewhere for somewhere better on a permanent deal
If you ask me, the loan players all go back, aside from Campbell and Higginbothom, one by one as their deals expire and our own players make their way back into the team. In January McCarthy needs to sign another right back, a centre back and a couple of forwards.
Trouble is, that using our own players can bring us countless problems. There must be a doubt about whether our fringe players are ever going to have a future in the championship, certainly players such as Murray, Whight and Ainsley must be considered very dodgy as to having a future at this level. We have many supporters, even on this board about including Hyam, but I wonder if people go overboard about him because he is a local boy, to me he is a bit of a one trick pony, and sorry Drury is out of his depth, a fish out of water. On a different note, I have been critical of Tommy Smith, on Saturday I saw him play his finest game, and marked the league's highest scorer out of the game. However Mick needs to give him an ultimatum Ipswich or Canada, flying off to China and getting back on Friday is not acceptable, for a friendly match, which amounts to a kick around in the local park. If he is not prepared to commit to us, transfer list him.
If he was to chose between Ipswich and Canada I would put my life savings he would chose Ipswich, the problem being that he doesn't play for Canada....
I've never heard anything so ridiculous (it's New Zealand tho not Canada). Asking the man to give up the experience of playing against the likes of Italy and Brazil to turn out for our sorry lot.
Sorry, yes New Zealand, was getting mixed up with Peters. However we pay his wages, friendlies are not proper matches, if he can't commit to us and our fans, get rid, let's stop being nice.
We have Chopra and JET insulting fans on twitter, we've got Reo-Coker slagging off his team mates and you want us to get rid of a player for having the dedication to fly to the other side of the world and back to play his football? Insanity.
I'm sorry Truth, I have to agree with Lancs on this. Tommy has shown real commitment to play for Ipswich and puts more effort in after a 20 hour journey than a large amount of our players do. I understand your point but let me pose you this question, would you accept the likes of Rooney and Ashley Cole refusing to play for England just because it was a friendly, or because they have a big Premier league match the following weekend? Unfortunately playing for your country should always be the pinnacle of your career and should always come first regardless of the consequences
Fans, they do amaze me. 2 months ago Smith was the fall guy and hated by most of this board. Fast forward a few weeks and he is the greatest player ever and should give up on his country because he is now brilliant again. Silly question but what if he was English yet travelled around the world playing for his country is that allowed or should we try never to sign anyone who could be considered as one of their countries best players.
Notice that Rooney has indeed withdrawn from the England squad, with a convenient injury. Some would say he was being anti England, another group would say he was being responsible, because he is paid very well by his club, and is showing loyalty towards his supporters, because of injury riskin a non match. All I am saying is that we should give serious thought to allowing players to play in non matches when we need all hands to the pump. Fairly sure that it has been discussed in doing away international friendly matches.
Which goes back to my initial point. A few weeks back the majority of this board said he should be sold and never seen again yet now you are questioning whether we should allow him to spend time away. He has shown loyalty to both the club (by being ever ready and not complaining) and his country (by wanting to represent them) Maybe it is fans that need to learn something about loyalty and not the player.
Next you'll be saying that you wouldn't want us to sign anyone who plays international football. Sorry but I don't agree either. Clubs shouldn't get in the way of a player wanting to represent his country. I think that's why a lot of people can't be bothered with England at the moment, because they feel some players DO put club before country.
I've always said Smith is still young and just needs to get games under him before he starts performing consistently. If anything, playing along side the best players of a country, against other international teams will be great for his development. Sure, he might get a bit tired in the short term (I imagine he just sleeps on the long plane journey though...) but the match experience he will gain could be invaluable for his development.
Exactly I'm amazed how people get swayed by one performance I geuss people go along with the rule, you're only as good as your last match!! After MM's first win we were gonna get to the playoffs and then we loose against CP and we're definitely going down because of the mess we've been left in!! Back to the point, I like Wellens and he's exactly the kind of player we need in the team but not sure about keeping him, we're not desperately short in CM, although perhaps like KOPR says perhaps keep him until Jan and see how we are then. I also think the criticism of Drury and Hyam is unfair they're both good players. As for the situation on Smith, the club could refuse him going on international duty but you can't blame the boy for wanting to play for his country!! Selling a player for wanting to play for his country, ridiculous!!
It would appear we will not be getting Wellens and that MM has already lined up an alternative. I've got to say that this would be a cracking signing! http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/21855/frimpong-fuels-speculation WOuld love to see him in an Ipswich shirt (even if it only for a short spell) the guy is an absolute monster and would tear this league apart
I think its likely Richie Wellens will be on the bench for us along with Matty James on Saturday. Nigel is trying to get rid of Neil Danns who has got on the bench recently but he is there purely the make the numbers up
