Nigel Pearson has said Richie Wellens could return against Wolves. I dont think he should be rushed back because if he can return to how he was before last season then he will be a big player for us Ritchie De Laet will also be fine for Wolves as will Zak Whitbread
Cue the anti-Wellens brigade here saying he is **** and should be sold. Personally I think he can do the job - can contol games with his passing. Can't do it all of the time as he has shown last season that he can't maintain his form but starting the odd game and as a sub, yes.
I know, i mean he is among them to earn their places. 2 years ago he was the best in the division. It all depends on his legs. he could be fresh, or they could be gone.
Ok bigfox i wont disappoint you, god help us if were getting excited about Wellens coming back, the midfield is pedestrian as it is without that liability in it.......
While I think he does have potential to be a bit player for us, I think he has to prove he's better than all of Drinkwater (one of our players of the season so far), King (our top scorer), Danns (our best player in the first half of 2012) and James (a new signing with a lot of potential). Personally I think Wellens should be 4/5th choice at the moment.
.... he was a commentator for Sky for the Blackpool game ... he looked very fir and like he might have lost a few pounds!
We have a lot of youth in the midfield - we need someone with experience, vision and calm temperament to take control. We need Paul Scholes - of course there is only 1 and he plays for Man Utd so we have his non-ginger equivalent in Wellens. Am not saying they are in the same class, but they are in the same school.
Let him play a game first before reserving judgement - I was one of those wanting Danns to play but after his last performance and attitude, not any more.
Wellens shouldn't just jump into the first side. He should work his way up through the reserves, sub appearances and the like.
As our passing playmaker, he would have to replace Drinkwater in the midfield, and I don't think he's up to Drinkwater's standard at the moment, even if fully fit.
Tbh, i dont think he will make it back into the team, Drinkwater seems to be doing Wellens' job atm, and i have no problem with him continuing to do it, think he will be a 4/5 place player, as players like Danns, James and now even King have more to offer in midfield.
At the minute Drinkwater and King have the shirts. Matty James has looked steady and Danns has been atrocious, Once Wellens returns he will have to work for his chance and it then will be tough to get on the bench. I reckon all 5 midfielders will be rotated on form and fitness throughout the season
