Was just about to do a thread on this. Ok it says it's at the players requests as they both are in their final year of their contracts and want to put themselves in the shop window for a, getting a new contract with us or b, getting a new club.

I have a concern with letting both leave. At the beginning of the season I said one of the things that was good was the fact we have quality cover along the back 4. Losing either or both would greatly reduce that and should something happen to one of our defenders we would be looking much weaker. But I understand they need to look out for themselves.

On another note would them going out on loan free up funds to strengthen in other areas?

The potential for injury or suspension (Lawrence on 3 yellow) makes this a very risky strategy.

I think one will go and one will stay. If we let both of them go who is left for cover. With both Framps and Shaggy (especially Shaggy) getting on a bit can we expect them to remain match fit for the whole season

Agree with only letting one go at a time, preferably King to go out first because he requires first team action more than most after the last 18 months he's had.

Can only be good news for us, and for the players in question. Look at what happened to Gowling's form after he returned from a spell at Lincoln last season.

Stick a 24 hour recall clause on them and I'm sure they'll find a taker.

You can't have a recall until after the first month.

The OS does say NO recall inside first month. I have mixed feelings - because I would like the best deal for the club ( & players ). My concern re Lawrence is the yellow cards - for a veteran he appears to be getting better and fitness level ( if not pace ) looks good. Davies showed great potential ( before the unfortunate sending off last year - could step up )

I agree that it would be good for one of the two to go on loan, but if both go at the same time it could be disasterous.

Davies has potential, but he is simply not yet ready for League football. We need at least one of King and Richards ready to step in, what with the very likely injury/suspension of the first choicers. Let's not forget that Gillingham FC pays their wages... and at present their JOB is to provide back-up for the first team.

I completely understand why they want to go on loan, to improve their prospects etc., but at the end of the day at least one of the two has to be prepared to stay put for the time being, so that we had another good CB to step in and keep our promotion push on track. That is, after all, what they are being paid to do.

Can you imagine the uproar if King left on loan 3 years ago!!! However he does need match practice. I agree with most only one, preferably King should go out on loan

I think Garry is going out to put himself on the shop window and you can tell from what Hess said in the interview that this is Gary's last year at Gillingham. :( Good player but won't ever get in the first team again.

Whereas Simon is going just to get match fit and come back and put himself back in the first team. I would be willing to bet that by xmas, if Simon has a good loan spell, he will displace Matt Lawrence in the first team.

I agree that if we let both go out on loan we could be in serious, serious trouble. Maybe Hess want's to bring in another center half and is generating the wage by letting these two out on loan because you wouldn't let these two out on loan if you didn't have another center half to fill in if either of the first choice got injured!

The bedrock of the team is Lawrence and Frampton who have been outstanding so far and it is no surprise that Richards and King are despondent. Lawrence has to be a slight concern because of the cards he collects and just how long can he be man of the match every week when he is 37 years old. But I think Hessy has more options than people realise because in the absence of either Frampton or Lawrence it will be Lee standing in.
So this leaves King and Richards in limbo. Richards is a known quantity--not quite good enough but a good reserve. King is an unknown quantity now and not the player of three seasons ago for obvious reasons. The shock when he played last season was the extent of loss of speed and movement but there must be a small chance that a run of games might restore his mobility so rather than let him suffer a lingering death it would be in everyone's interest for him to go on loan. Richards is a different kettle of fish and should go with a view to a permanent move because he will not be a successor to Lawrence

why oh why did we drop out of the reserves league. it wouldnt have been much but it might have been enough to keep these lads happy. i can see them both going out on loan but if i was hess i'd be sensible and do it a month apart so we can atleast call the first one back whilst the other one is serving the first month.

someone will be getting one or maybe 2 very good solid cb's who will be playing at this level for a while, espically if king gets back to 75% of the player he was

jokey- its well publicised that loaning players to BSP sides is better for match fitness than the reserve league, any player will tell you that. the advantage of reserve team is to test youth players against full pros

I think it is a shame that they want to leave to go on loan elsewhere, but saying that I would not want to be a bench warmer.

why do some think reserve football will be fine and players not in the first eleven will be happy at that???

reserve football is for fitness and injury recovery...no more than that...main stream football is what players need to hit form!!!
it's not the same standard whatsoever that king & richards etc should be targeting to get back in to the first team at all.

a slight risk with both wanting to go out at the sametime but one that they want and good luck to them both.
think if we send them out now, the month without recall will almost be over and 24 hour recall can be added in & we don't have to worry about when will lawrence reach that 5th yellow card!

king going out somewhere else does concern me when he needs monitoring on and off the pitch regards what & what not to do with the injury that has dogged him and how best to deal with it??? guess though give him games and time will tell!!! richards i'm not to sure i think he's a main defender for us anyway...so get him in the window and see what happens?
not that bad, if we look deep into the squad we have options for cover ie. fish, martin, davies, lee, essam who is out on loan and oli at a push...only kidding on that one ;)

hess has said they will only go out on loan if the club they go to intend playing them....hess has said alot of stuff and backtracked of late though!!!
in the meantime if it happens it's freeing up some more funds, keeping the squad happy and younger players having more involvement in & around the team!

so yes would be ok with me were it to go ahead...which it no doubt will <ok>

should let King go first and then after a month when he can be recalled in needed send richards out. king needs regular games so this could work well for us.

yeah but atleast with the reserve fixtures the players know that they are gonna get a chance to impress the gaffa on a regular occassion so that even the slightest dip in form leads him to think hang on so and so been playing well in the reserves maybe they should start. rather than them going out on loan and hess not seeing how they get on on a minute by minute basis and having to take another managers word

well last time we sent a first team centre half out on loan of a month he was released at the end of the year and is now captain of the the club he want on loan to! (If you can't work out who that is you really are dim!)
