He's not the first and he won't be the last. Personally if I was a professional footballer there is no way I would turn out for the budgies. Would you?
Yes I would. I accept that there are clearly allegiances that shouldn't be crossed, but if I was a professional footballer and saw the opportunity to further my career (and play some games) then I would reluctantly pull on the green and yellow. After all it is a job and if you started being too partisan and fussy you wouldn't have much of a career. Having said that. I've already done the deed having played for their academy until I was 13. Then signed for Ipswich and we were promptly relegated from the Prem the next year and so was released
Terry Butcher, famously, had trials for them as a schoolboy and went back to his dad and said he just couldn't face wearing the yellow and green!True legend.
Our England football lads are talking about pride and passion for their nation. I think it's an important part of motivation and performance in sport (something Jordan Rhodes is not exactly renowned for).
I think Rhodes is a bit mercenarie and would turn out for anyone paying the money.....although he is in this category with almost every other footballer.......can’t think of one that is not to be honest.
Well it's a job at the end of the day and not really his fault since Blackburn put him on £40k p.with a 10% yearly add on that he's been on 40-50k p.w since leaving for Boro + Sheff weds. All that including 10% of transfer fees as signing on fees too........ nice work Jordan if you can get it. Be interesting to see how he does for that rag - off to a good start with a goal vs Union Berlin. Sidenote - footballers often get called mercinaries - however it's the idiots at the club who offer them laughable £££. Take the famous Seth Johnson story from Leeds in the past - you'll have all heard it. Johnson + agent arrive at Leeds under Risdale to move from Crewe. He was rumoured to be on around 5k p.w there. They entered the negotiating table hoping to perhaps get 15k p.w.......... Risdale gets the contract out........ 30k. They look at each other in shock...... and ask to leave the room. Risdale is panicking in the room desperate to get the lad in.... Agent says to Johnson something along the lines of ' W T F ' and they agree to they reckon they can blag more out of him. Ask for 35k............ Risdale happy to do it. Neither can believe it as they leave. Fast forward years later when Leeds wouldn't play the lad due to a payment if he played one more game............ Player labelled a mercenary. Not in my book - run by bloody idiots.
Gazza got stung by a performance clause at Burnley I think it was that meant he didn't get paid and he couldn't play either.
