I'm sure there are other people with their contracts up at the end of the season, but regarding of these three, which of them would you definitely retain, which of them would you definitely release, or which of them would you sit on the fence for for now? Dan Harding Danny Butterfield Radhi Jaidi
I wish to retain all three, Harding in particular. The most likely to go will be Jaidi, due to his age more than anything, but I would consider him having a useful role for another season yet, he brings experience and has a good partnership with Fonte. Harding, meanwhile, I believe is our most underrated player, whilst we have good cover at right back with Richardson and Butterfield. Keep all three i say, but reality is likely to be different.
I would personally keep Harding for sure. I'd keep Butterfield on for another year as well. With Jaidi I'm never quite sure. Aerially he is very important to us, but his lack of pace often gets him into trouble, and I'm not sure were we to get promoted that he'd be able to cope. On a slightly unrelated note, does anyone know whether Dickson just didn't make the squad on Saturday or if he is injured again? And who does everyone reckon that Nigel and Nicola will actually keep hold of? I remember at the end of last season being quite surprised to see Lloyd James being let go...
Keep all 3. Harding has been consistant, Jaidi still has a big role for us and is a fantastic sub or a solid player when given regular breaks and butts is still keeping his place over richardson so enough said!
Keep all 3 Harding and Butterfield are no brainers - Important first teamers likely to also be important next year. Jaidi I think still could hack it against teams that like to play long ball, but Martin, Seabourne or a new recruit if Adkins thinks they aren't up to it, should partner Fonte.
Jaidi!!! How about a long term deal making him the highest paid player at the club? Futhermore, play him every game...........
I dont think we should release any of them at all ...they can't be doing that much of a job at present if we are in Play Off place. I accept that judgement could be different come the end of the season and if our objective is not met. I am pretty impressed with our defence this season , yep ok Jaidi has been sloopy of late but that down to stamina. Just means Martin / Seabourne gets a run out and chance to develop in the squad.
Keep all 3. But wouldn't neccessarily keep Jaidi and Butterfield as first-teamers. Reserves at best in my opinion
I can see why people want to keep Jaidi the other two yes definitely keep. I think it should/will depend on what league we end up in. If we are promoted then no he will struggle in the championship. People keep saying Martin's is up this year but I am not so sure that it is, but hey what do I know....... Anyone heard any more about this goalkeeper we are supposed to be interested in?
you're forgetting chamberlain, I would love him to stay at least another year, mills has been doing a job at doncaster, doble is promising, as it gobern, richardson in my mind is better than butterfield but he doesnt get a look in so he may go
i may not be a soton fan but i think it seems like harding deserves a new contract he seems a good player from what i have heard also the other two jaidi and butterfield are good players aswell as they are experienced and are good defenders so I think they will have to sit down and plan about who they are bringing in, in the summer and who they want to keep so if they know they want new defenders then they may chose to release one or two of them good Luck with the rest of the season
Keep all 3. Harding and Butterfield would be starters in a Championship side. Jaidi would be a great back up player. Remember that if we keep players in some positions, we'll have more to spend on new players. I'm sure we won't replace the whole team if we get promoted.
Keep all three, the Jedi has a lot to teach Aaron and Sebo and will be a useful back up. Harding is better than a lot of people give him credit for and Butterfield had a short bad patch but was carrying an injury, since that was sorted is back to his best.
Get rid of Jaidi, keep the other two. Jaidi is too slow for league 1!! If we get promoted he just has to go. I would bring in two centre backs in the summer.
I am not sure that we need any new centre halves if we went up. Though he has not had a particularly long run in the team, there is no doubt that Seaborne has ability, he was getting rave reviews at Exeter City. Martin however may usurp Seaborne, as he seems to have only had a stronger game every time he was played. Its a shame that our woeful early season form was meant that few risks can be taken with allowing as much development of players as we should like, but it still good to see Gobern being brought into the fold by Adkins, even if it appears that this certain academy product has much more in line with Arsenal than Chamberlain...he certainly took inspiration from Flamini on saturday!
I would retain all three and at the age of 35 who says jaidi will continue on another season? He might want to call it a day I agree that he would be useful backup for the champ and has been immense at times this season.
