Afternoon all, (New poster and all that....) Reading some of the recent posts following our first 4 games, got me thinking, "OK then, how did other newly promoted teams do against the 4 sides we've played against?" (Forgive me if this has been covered previously!!) Looking at the past 3 years' promoted sides, we've got: (2011) QPR, Norwich, Swansea, (2010) Newcastle, WBA, Blackpool, & (2009) Wolves, Birmingham C and Burnley. Their results were:

Man C (a) Wigan (h) Man Utd (h) Arsenal (a)

QPR Lost 2-3 Won 3-1 Lost 0-2 Lost 0-1

Norwich Lost 1-5 Drew 1-1 Lost 1-2 Drew 3-3

Swansea Lost 0-4 Drew 0-0 Lost 0-1 Lost 0-1

Newcastle Lost 1-2 Drew 2-2 Drew 0-0 Won 1-0

WBA Lost 0-3 Drew 2-2 Lost 1-2 Won 3-2

B'Pool Lost 0-1 Lost 1-3 Lost 2-3 Lost 0-6

Wolves Lost 0-1 Lost 0-2 Lost 0-1 Lost 0-1

Birmingham Lost 1-5 Won 1-0 Drew 1-1 Lost 1-3

Burnley Drew 3-3 Won 3-1 Won 1-0 Lost 1-3

Putting this into a league table and adding our current season..... Whereas the team just above us on goal difference stayed up. It looks like NA's right. It's the next 34 games that define our season. (Fingers-crossed I won't be saying "33 games" next week!! ) Cheers LSN.
Excellent post, and should go some way to shutting people up. Doesn't take into account how much bettere these teams have got this season either, or the fact that our squad is still gelling and getting used to 4-3-3/4-5-1. COYR
I do like this post and seeing it did cheer me up, although I'm not particularly down about the actual results or the performances. It's hard to put a finger on what it is as the clubs stance is to not divulge info. Just feel we have ignored some fundamental points during close season and it's now effecting the games end results! Top post though and it will hopefully brighten the mood! 5 stars!!!!
If you think about it although it's been painful I'd rather have these games out of the way than still to come. We can beat anyone at home!
Getting hold of the results wasn't the problem.... ....if I'd have known that you needed a PhD in html to format the tables on this forum, I'd never have bothered signing up!!
I'd be willing to bet that had all those teams played the games as their first four fixtures, there would be a lot more losses and I suspect very few points
you will definitely go down as if you look at those results then you are losing by huge scores....Big improvement is needed for any chance and so far it dont look good other than whipping boys...sorry...but someone has to be bottom and its usually the worst team.....reading is your best bet for some points but to get to the magic 40 pts then no way
Losing by huge scores? Err, two of our games we only lost by one goal (against the two best teams in the country) and another we only lost by two. There's only been one "huge score" so far buddy, and that wasn't exactly against a bad team. Not entirely sure where you've got your inflated sense of self worth from... one season ever of being relevant seems to have gone to your head!
I don't think Swansea fans should get too cocky, Wolves got 7 points from their first three games and ended up being the whippings boys. It's far too early to say what will happen.
swansea fans getting very arrogant ATM, wrote off Villa and look what happened. If you think of it like this, Villa were relagated after one game, and they beat swansea, so that must mean Swansea are for the drop in 20th. My logic winsss.
Gooner here in peace. Just wanted to correct one small mistake in the OP's post. WBA actually did beat us 3-2 when they played at the Emirates on their first season back in the top flight. That may alter the stats slightly.
