Often a defeat by a single goal suggests to me that when we put our mind to it the team are capable of giving even the best teams something to think about in that we are tough to break down. That surely is something to build upon and when we take into account the many aspects of our game that are sadly lacking or even clueless surely with good coaching and even a modest improvement to the squad we will be capable of doing much better next season. The big question is in which league we will be playing.
The thing is, you can't find a balance. I made an article about this sometime a few months back. You're either tough to break down, but can't score and get wins, or you go forward, attack and score goals, but concede too many. You're either getting 0-0/1-1 draws or 1-0 losses, or losing 3-2
Like I have been bleating on all season. We have to beat the teams below and around us .we are finding it difficult to do that never mind playing and getting beat ot the top clubs by the odd goal, that's not the problem
We have absolutely no goal scorer what so ever in the side at the minute, the goals we score are either O.G or random players. This will be our main problem in the next 6 games, we may play well but someone HAS to smash it in the net, Benteke, Kone, Cisse, Lambert are all players who can for the teams in and around us hence why ourselves, Norwich and Stoke are dropping in the mix.
To be fair mate Danny Graham is a 1/3 goal striker. Something has clearly been wrong with MoN's man management at Sunderland which wasn't an issue at previous clubs. My guess is John Robertson
Bought in January and still no goals come April, I have nothing against DG its just the fact we got absolutely ripped regarding the price and he isnt very good. I mean he missed a sitter against us at the SOL, and then we buy him! I would rather he had scored and at least we would have signed a goal scorer. Another MON boob unfortunately.
Mentality. Seb is the best example for me, he is usually excellent for Sweden, his best games for us have been c City away last year, Arsenal away. Only wants to play the big games, we have lost at Reading, at QPR, held at home by QPR & Fulham. Bollocks.
You can look at the Reading away game as the game that relegated us if we go down by 1 point, similar with Norwich at home against 10 men. QPR at home was Arry's first game so draw not a bad result but QPR away we were battered.
I agree, looking back, if we go by 1-3 points (as we have the better GD by far), that Reading game was the one. Fulham home was a shocker as well mind, as well as the Norwich game you mention, even as far back as the derby v 10. If we go, nobody can say we didn't use our 9 lives.
Aye Fulham at home was bad but you could say that was 1 point gained after being 0-2 down mind, thinking back remember West Ham away at the start of the season, Nolan 93rd minute equaliser! I tell you what like it would be heartbreaking to go down by 1 point, suicide would cross my mind.
I don't get to all that many games with being a poor student down in London but I was at Reading away. Jimmy Kebe (an ok player) ****ing murdered us. It was clear we weren't up for it and were shocked that they didn't just roll over.
