Anyone know how they got on? Think they kicked off at 2 and there's nothing on safc website. I'd be interested to know how Meyler, Maclean and Knott got on.

David Meyler completed the full 90 minutes as Sunderland's reserves went down at Everton.

Everton Res 2 Sunderland Res 0

Two goals in the final eight minutes put paid to Sunderland's hopes at Everton in the Barclays Premier Reserve League.

The Black Cats acquitted themselves well against a strong Everton side featuring new signing James McFadden and young star Ross Barkley.

An even clash ebbed and flowed but the hosts profited with a draw looming as the unlucky Liam Marrs deflected a cross past Lewis King for an own goal.

Substitute Conor McAleny wrapped up the points just 60 seconds later to leave Sunderland with nothing after what Keith Bertschin described as a "pleasing" first 80 minutes.

Bertschin saw David Meyler complete a 90-minute run-out and also called upon Louis Laing and James McClean, both of whom were on the bench for the senior side's defeat at Arsenal.

Blustery conditions at Finch Farm weren't conducive to flowing football but there were chances at both ends with Tyias Browning forced into a goalline clearance from a Sunderland corner.

Browning made another key clearance in the second half, heading off the line after Jordan Cook's lofted shot sailed over Marcus Hahnemann.

The visitors claimed the ball had crossed the line when the clearance was made, but the referee waved away the appeals.

Everton's Barkley saw a shot deflected just over before Everton capitalised on a slice of luck to forge ahead just when it seemed a draw was the likeliest result.

Adam Forshaw tried to square across the box for Anton Forrester only to see the ball strike Marrs and flash beyond the helpless King.

And the points were secure moments later when David Meyler was robbed by Barkley and McAleny strode through to finish neatly beyond the Sunderland keeper.

Sunderland: King, Marrs, Bagnall, Laing, Egan, Knott (Deacon, 73), Meyler, Armstrong, McClean, Trialist (Tounkara, 60), Cook.

Subs Not Used: B Wilson, Mitchell, Elliott.
