2nd loss in a row the reserves need to pick it up if they are still to have a chance of the league. Man City v Liverpool Reserves 1 - 0 18 April 2011, KO: 19:00 Liverpoolfc.tv Man of the Match: Tom Ince. A solid display. Liverpool Reserves: Hansen, Mendy, Irwin, Wisdom, Regan, Thomas (Coady 70), Roberts, Silva, Kohlert (Saric 73), Suso, Ince. Unused subs: King, Bouzanis, Sama. I read an interview that said the reason they're not doing too well at the moment is because Kenny keeps using players like Spearing, Flanno, Robinson, Shelvey etc... and so they can't be played for another week. This does more than limit the coaches options, but it means players that don't play regularly are started and so are out of practice. Don't forget the likes of Coady and Suso etc.. still play in the U18 side AND the Reserves.
The most important thing is the development of the players. Winning the reserve league would be nice but what would you prefer, winning the reserve league or having 4 or 5 players making their mark on the first-team? I'm disappointed but the players breaking into the first-team is of paramount importance.
Out of: Hansen, Mendy, Irwin, Wisdom, Regan, Thomas (Coady 70), Roberts, Silva, Kohlert (Saric 73), Suso, Ince. Unused subs: King, Bouzanis, Sama. I expect Wisdom, Coady, Saric, Silva, Suso, Ince and Sama to be the ones to come through or atleast continue on to play professional football somewhere - so I'm not too disappointed if we lose to other teams in the reserves. After all; who wants a team full of average albeit connected players? You want reserves and Academy players so you can pick the best and use them, rarely do you just "replace" your first team with your reserves.
I'm not denying that, i'm just saying the development of the players is more important. Yeah, i'd like to see us win the reserve league as well but it just wasn't their year.
I agree with that. The reserves should only be a platform for some of the players to eventually step up to the first team squad, some of the better ones don't stay all that long in the reserves, because they are too good for it and make their way to the first team squad.Look at John Flanagan and Jack Robinson.Look at how little reserve football they have played. The best Liverpool youngsters over the years played little or no reserve team football.
