I remember Mussie asked what the reserves format was this year. I knew it had changed as I read about it in the HDM, but I couldn't find the article. It has however been updated on the OWS since I last checked. apparently not home and away then. 7 home games and 8 away. hmmmm! looks like a mish-mash to me! we'd be better off joining the evo-stick league along side Ferriby and Ashton in my opinion. at least there would be mildly decent opposition on a weekly basis
That might not be a bad idea actually, start a 2nd team in non league & see how they do. I don't know if the costs are a bit much but if it's a case of match practice & competition week in week out then it's brilliant! Why has no one come up with it before?
There must be some sort of rule against it, otherwise Man united and the like would all have their own 'B' teams in League 1 and League 2. Similar to how they do it in Spain.
I was going to put that we could buy Ferriby but then I remembered the whole Maxwell thing of Oxford & Derby. So now I know why it's not allowed!
There has been talk of this idea before but the FA didn't take to it as it would give the more financially comfortable teams an unfair chance. Many of the top Spanish teams have B teams who play in the minor leagues.
and people wonder why non of our players make it to play for the first team regularly. Just look at the fixtures. They are really going to learn a lot playing against this lot arnt they. Chris, it has been years since we played in a really competitive reserve league.
I always wondered why we never loaned any of our best youth players to Ferriby. If they gained 2 promotions, they'd be in the same league as Grimsby. Some kind of partnership should be kindled (I know we have that Billy Bly thing, but I'm talking ambition), whereby we can loan them players like Clarkson, McCaffrey, Clark and McElroy. They get decent players for that level and and a chance to push up the league and we get competitive game time for our players! On the subject of Ferriby, have they recieved anything from the Allams? I only ask because Ionians (Rugby's answer to Ferriby) were due to get something a while back. Maybe Ferriby could get a new stadium. At Melton perhaps?
Slightly related - I don't understand why Cooper has rejected a switch to Pompey. He's now sixth-choice centre-half, he's clearly not going to get a game, why would he choose to rot in the reserves?
i guess it depends on what is happening at pompey and the terms of the proposed deal? maybe another opportunity is also awaiting. football is not just about football. let's face it, to a footballer, it's just a job!
To be fair i wouldn't move to the other side of the country for a one month loan so i can see why he doesn't really want to go. Only a month to, might be worth hanging around and seeing if he can get a year long loan deal somewhere else.
Well for a start Hobbs is injured. Secondly he should be ahead of Bruce or Mcshane. Maybe he's annoyed the club are trying to ship him off out when he knows he's a better defender than two of the lads getting games right now. Added to the fact he was starting at the end of last season after Hobbs got injured.
