Gulasci, Parnaby (trialist), Clark, Holohan, East, Cooper, McCaffrey, Wilson, Clarkson, Dillon, Emerton Subs: Peet, Barlow, Gabbiadini, Papprill, Chambers I take it the trialist is Stuart Parnaby, the 29 year old right back released by Brum at the end of last season?
Is apparently on trial with us. Is he the one who used to play for Boro/Birmingham? Because if so... he isn't what we need; a striker.
It is indeed Stuart Parnaby(now confirmed on the club FB site), we've been looking for cover for Rosie and he's a free agent.
Now if I remember rightly; was he not a member of the Boro UEFA Cup final team? Can't be that bad! Although we still need a striker.
He's got a shocking injury record, though he'd only ever be on the pitch if Rosie was ruled out for a while. He's already had trials at Coventry, Leeds, Millwall and Charlton, along with almost re-signing for Brum.
If he is brought in as back up he is decent enough and can cover LB if ever needed, nothing more than a bit of extra cover, not a bad signing.
Cooper could cover left back, although we already have Dawson and Dudgeon. Chester could cover right back but based on his performances last season we really don't want that to be the case. I wouldn't mind Parnaby til the end of the season for cover but Macca will be back for next season.
I don't think that Macca will be back next season, we don't want him and he doesn't want to come back. He was buying a house in Swanland, but pulled out a few months back, saying he no longer expected to be in the area, so couldn't proceed with the sale.
I don't see anyone offering him a deal on par with what he has here, so I suppose it'll be another loan deal. For depth I would say an ideal circumstance would be 2 left backs, 2 right backs and 4 centre halves, although if we have someone like Macca who can cover both the centre and the right then 8 defenders isn't always necessary. Anyway, my point is totally diregarding Macca and wanting rid seems a bit daft when we'll probably have to pay half/three quarters of his wages if he takes a loan spell elsewhere, on top of bringing in another centre half & Parnaby/another right back covering option.
Macca is into the final year of his contract next season, so would probably take a pay cut to secure a longer deal and as far as I know, Palace are paying his wages in full, as Allam refused to subsidise them(that's why they took him on a month's trial first).
I think a point that needs to be asked is if the reserves had a fixture, why were our first team fringe players not included? NB says on the return of J Simpson that he will be given a new start. I dont remember him even being on the bench since his return. He never featured for the reserves for this game either. What fresh start? Whats the point of the reserves if fringe players are not beeing given game time. I realise I will get a"we have too many games this month" retort, but surely these players need game time.
Simpson came on a sub in the Ipswich cup game, but that's his only first team appearance since returning. He started the last reserve game, but was ****e apparently, he doesn't want to be with us and I think he's been written off.
Surprised to hear that from Palace, isn't he on 20k+? I would have thought Palace would be shelling out 8k max.
He had a relegation clause, but I'm not sure exactly what it dropped too, I think it went from £24k to about £16k.
