Report: Luton Town 3-0 Bristol City Two goals just six minutes apart and a late own goal brought City’s unbeaten run to an end at Kenilworth Road. After an end-to-end first half, the first goal in this game would be crucial. And so it came to be when Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu picked out the top corner to score his first Sky Bet Championship goal for Luton. Harry Cornick slotted beyond Dan Bentley just six minutes later with the frame of Luton’s goal preventing a debut goal for City’s latest recruit Rodri. An unfortunate own goal from Ashley Williams, who slid across in an attempt to block Ryan Tunnicliffe's low cross, rubbed salt into the wounds deep into stoppage time. It had been 14 years since City’s last league visit to Kenilworth Road – 2015 the last meeting in the League Cup - and it was not a result to remember as the result ends the Robins unbeaten streak at ten matches in the Championship. Career milestone Jack Hunt was restored to make his 350th career appearance. Lee Johnson made three changes in all with Hunt, Nathan Baker and Kasey Palmer all returned to the starting XI, meaning Pedro Pereira, Callum O’Dowda and Niclas Eliasson were named among the substitutes alongside Spanish forward Rodri. It was an exciting first half for the neutral and Rowe was particularly busy in the early offerings, first forcing James Shea into a low stop before taking the ball around the Luton keeper but firing off target from a narrow angle. please log in to view this image An open contest Shea was soon busy again when a moment of madness from Martin Cranie played in Kasey Palmer. The attacking midfielder was initially offside until Cranie’s back header and as Palmer tried to round Luton’s goalkeeper, Shea got the block in. It had been a bright start from City for sure but the home side were growing in confidence. Their first notable chance fell to Izzy Brown who could only stab the ball straight at Bentley. He was crowded out as he attempted to shoot, which thankfully took any sting out of the effort. With the home side finding some rhythm, only the crossbar came to City’s rescue when Brown unleashed a fierce first-time shot from the edge of the area. please log in to view this image It was quite the warning for Johnson’s side who came inches to taking the lead just moment later themselves. Andreas Weimann latched on to a chip over the Luton backline where he was forced to hold up play. Eventually he sent a teasing cross towards Famara Diédhiou at the backpost, but it just evaded the striker with Shea backtracking. But it had been an end-to-end contest with the final minutes of the first half proving no different. And in that nature, the Hatters were soon threatening again with James Collins first shooting across goal before a diving save from Bentley denied Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu. Luton break the deadlock However, there was little he could do to keep out Mpanzu’s strike ten minutes into the second half. He found the top corner of Bentley’s goal, cutting in off the left and bending an unstoppable right-footed shot. Johnson made a double change with Eliasson and O’Dowda on to replace Taylor Moore and Palmer but they had little time to impact the game before Luton scored again. The hatters doubled their lead when Cornick bet the offside trap. Brown slipped in the striker who raced through one-on-one with Bentley before slotting the ball beyond the Robins’ last line of defence. please log in to view this image Enter Spanish striker Rodri, last week’s signing in BS3, who saw a header denied by the Luton post, while at the other end Luton continued to pour forward with Collins denied by a vital Bentley block. City would see the ball in the back of the Luton net and it was debut delight for Rodri, if only for a second, as the flag was raised for offside. City couldn’t force a way back into the fixture and Williams' sliding block turned the ball into his own net at the death. They now look forward to back-to-back home matches, the first against Charlton Athletic on Wednesday night. https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/luton-town-v-bristol-city/
We can’t win them all,We now need to win Wednesday . Interestingly we’re still only 3 points off 2nd place.
Shocking result needs addressing quickly If we have aspirations of top six this is not good enough. Leeds or WBA would not lose three nil at Luton
Look at the table RR, it’s what make the championship so fascinating, anyone can beat anyone, it’s really tight , as I pointed out we are 3 points off 2nd place.
Not the best of news upon my return from warmer climes but there it is and now we have to show we are better than today in our next match.
Yes it was a very poor result, no doubt. Hopefully just an International break hangover, a big test on Weds though!!
I hope the claims of racism is untrue in your game yesterday. If it is true then I hope your club names and shames them. We've had it at our ground too recently. I swear racism is getting worse and worse now.

I wasn't have a dig at your club by the way if your response is thinking that I am. I wouldn't have admitted my club were guilty too at the same time if I was fishing here. But if your question is genuine, I don't believe they did but I wish they had done so. I feel all found guilty at any club should be named and shamed. The last time I went to Luton must have been early to mid 90's. I remember chants from that game from our fans. Chants like England, England, England - basically saying Luton wasn't in England.
No just interested in what your club did that's all. Although I feel it would be more difficult to name and shame people at away games than home ones, for us at least as we do have records of where people sit at home. It's a free for all away
Yesterday it was kinda the same, "small town in Asia", and chanting towards an Asian family in the stand to our left "England, England" etc oh and chanting about Tommy Robinson ffs, all tickets were sold to season ticket holders so wont be hard identifying the idiots
All kicking off on OTIB as some are claiming TR is not a racist but a Islamphobe. I think they are missing the point regardless of his views the chanting was in reference to Asians
Christ absolutely pathetic this is sung at all grounds. What are we becoming it’s football grounds not the frigging opera
According to a Luton forum the chanting was in response to being called Welsh. Well? Err … Like it has been for years.
Steve Lansdown statement Sunday, October 20th 2019 Steve Lansdown has vowed to fully investigate allegations of racist language being used in the away end at Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship fixture at Luton Town’s Kenilworth Road (October 19th). The City owner re-affirmed the club’s swift condemnation of any form of abuse or racist language and said: “I am shocked and disappointed to hear of these allegations. “I can assure our genuine supporters and Luton Town, who have been very helpful, that we are fully investigating these reports. We will deal harshly with anyone found behaving in a racist manner and they will be banned from Ashton Gate and from purchasing tickets at future away matches. “Racial intolerance is not something that we want being associated with our club in any shape or form. I firmly believe that, in no way is it representative of our true supporters or the essence of Bristol City as a family club which celebrates diversity and inclusivity.” https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/steve-lansdown-statement/
Disappointing result. Need to get three points at home to Charlton now. I've been around City for nigh on 50 years. Historically, like at most clubs I presume, and back in the days before 'racial enlightenment' there has always been a very racist element at the Gate. Over the years I've seen and heard it many many times over, even against our own players, such as Steve Stacey (if anyone remembers him?) and players such as Kevin Amankwah and several others. This used to come from the Enclosure and the Dolman Stand.
