    Hi David

Each year the release of the new kit attracts comments both for and against. The 'lemon peel' shirt of two years ago came in for a lot of criticism from some quarters, yet ended up as our biggest selling away shirt ever. Last years 'star trek' shirt was also not universally liked, yet sold very well, particularly taking into account what a poor season we had and the difficult financial times we all had to face.

As part of our kit deal with Adidas our choices are restricted to the available templates. We also have to order up to a year in advance, to make sure kit is available in the right quantities. So this year's kit was chosen quite some time ago.

Since then, we have set up the Fans Parliament, and embarked on a policy of wider fan engagement and consultation. This means that in future, decisions on kit will be taken in a much more inclusive way.

This is the last year of our current kit deal which gives us an ideal opportunity to make sure that in the future we get as many supporters as possible involved in how a new kit might look.

We've already started having internal conversations about this. We'll be coming back to fans in the autumn with some proposals.

In Kevin Smith’s defence, I would say that he has been a real breath of fresh air since joining the club, and has been at the forefront of a lot of the change in policy on fan engagement. The fact that he supports Southampton is irrelevant – he is fully committed to helping make Bristol City a successful and progressive club.

    Thanks for your support.

    Regards

    Fair play for contacting him.

Poor response. I think he avoids the crux of fans points.

Go in size in town and you will see that no matter how garish something is big brands still sell. The ire directed at the lemon peel kit was due to the inclusion of blue, not because It was yellow.

The club have templates, not a template. That is a choice. Their choice is to cut fans out of the loop and ditch traditions. Their choice to again repeat the same mistake. Evidently this year's kit is due to feedback from fans, who?

Yes it does matter that a fan of Southampton chooses "our" history for us.

I think he is saying this years kit was chosen before the club embarked on the five pillars route and that there will be more consultation for next years kit.

Last one on shirts or I will end up vexed for the summer. It doesn't matter that shirts were selected before this touchyl feely pillar thingy. Kevin Smith chose the star trek kit, the club were criticised for it . He could have then have used the supporters trust and club to have a look at the options, but no he knows best.
