Exclusive - QPR must replace Chris Ramsey or risk relegation to League One, warns Neil Warnock

    By Alex Varney (@lexvarney) | Monday, May 11, 2015

Neil Warnock has told Tony Fernandes he must bring in an experienced boss following Queens Park Rangers' relegation from thePremier League.

The Hoops' return to the top-flight has lasted just one season, with Sunday's thumping 6-0 defeat to Manchester City sending them down with two games left to go.

Chris Ramsey, who stepped up from a youth development role to take over from Harry Redknapp as manager in February, believes he should be given the chance to carry on in the job.

But Warnock, who guided the club to promotion from the Championship in 2011, insists it would be a mistake to leave the rookie coach in charge.

Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, he said: “I believe they have to get an experienced manager in.

"It is a going to be a lot of wheeling and dealing without spending fortunes and they need to try to establish themselves in the Championship first and foremost.

"If they go down the line of [playing] the kids, they are in for a big shock and, before you know where you are, you are plummeting down the division.

“I know Chris Ramsey is a very, very good coach, but management is different to coaching. I think they have to be very, very careful the way they go now.

“It is easy to say, ‘yeah, we will give it to Chris, and bring the kids in’, but if you are not careful with kids in the Championship, you are in League One before you know it.

"Chris is a good bloke and him and Les Ferdinand could sort the youth out and plan the future of the club, but I'm not sure about [managing in] the Championship."

I think he's spot-on. The Championship is more competitive than ever and we need to go in strong from the off - no time to allow CR a couple of months to get it wrong. Again.

I think what Neil says does make a lot of sense. We need a Manager who has experience of the transfer market and allow Chris to concentrate on the Youth.

I'd give Colin another go at it - correct me if I'm wrong but did we not play our most entertaining & successful football of recent years under him when we won the Championship in 2011?

Never going to happen. Agree with him though that Ramsey is not the man for us.

I count myself as one of his steadfast supporters but I do sincerely hope that Tony is not going to lurch from one extreme, over-paying ageing mercenaries, to another: relying on inexperienced kids. Surely he must realise there is some middle ground here. Please.

Glenn Hoddle said similar yesterday too. Hoddle and Warnock have said it now. Will TF listen to experienced football people?

Tony has listened to too many "experienced football men" already. That's one of (but not the only) reasons we're in such a mess.

"Good old boy" managers like Neil W and Harry R would naturally see people like themselves as the solution. To a man with a hammer everything looks like a nail. They look for deals and opportunities as a substitute for planning and growth. That isn't good enough any more.

How many of the top six clubs in the Championship have a manager that had experience managing in the Championship or EPL before?
