In an interview with the YEP. Some choice quotes: Keep it up Aidy and you'll be in the Championship team of the season.
Do you think that he is good enough defending or that his final ball is good enough, sometimes also he starts running and then turns around and doesnt really know what to do with the ball and hesitates. I mean the potential is there but i dont think he is as inspiring as the rest of the leeds fans do
At the start of the season, I didn't think his defending was good enough and I said he wouldn't make it as a fullback. I was wrong. His tackling, positional sense and pace are all excellent. Yes he lacks a final ball and that's why I think it's best he's played as a defender rather than a winger, but really there are very few pacy fullbacks who can defend like he can and who can also deliver a final ball. In fact, there's probably only Bale, Evra, Lahm and a few others who would qualify in that category. So as long as he keeps his head firmly on his shoulders, I think he'll make it big.
I think the fact that Danny Pugh is the guy in front of him reduces the effectiveness of Aidys final ball, because Pugh doesnt overlap him then aidy has to defuse his run and pass backwards!
i think pugh is the reason that aidy white is shining more. Because he covers white's run so that white doesnt have to sprint to try to get back into position. That works fine for me
Gradel was doing that against Ipswich away. He covered and White was going up and down the flank. It's not about having a defensive player like Pugh, just someone hardworking like Gradel was. His final ball isn't great, but there's loads of wingers who can't really cross that well (Lennon, Walcott etc.) but have made a career at the top level. He's good coming from deep, where he has more space to attack. On the wing he'd be less effective. That's the problem with attacking fullbacks, is people often think they'd be great on the wing. So are like Bale but most would be less effective. He's been our player of the year so far, IMO.
I think so far he is in with a shout, unfortunatley our goals against collum come the end of the season might make him over looked.
theres no way he'd be a contender for player of the season so far. I dont think he has done that well of a job actually, more just a fill in. I STILL see it as a problem area that needs to be fixed. Although he isnt the worst in the back four by a long shot
