HARRY Redknapp insists Gary Hooper wanted to join Queen’s Park Rangers.

The Loftus Road manager was confident of landing the Celtic striker before he joined Norwich City in a £5.5 million deal on Friday.

Redknapp believes QPR took far too long to complete the switch and hopes a lesson has been learned as they approach other targets ahead of the new Championship campaign.

He said: “You can’t hang about. I could write a book about players I have signed and lost over the years. Deals have got to be done quickly and that deal probably dragged on for two-and-a-half months. It was miles too long.

“It should have been done, but that’s how it goes. We learn from that one and move on. We can’t make that same mistake again.

“I believe the boy wanted to come here. I don’t care what anybody says, he was coming to us, but I just think that it seemed to be a bit of a mix-up with the deal. Never mind that’s how it goes.”

Shame, they missed out the bit when he said 'I'm going to scream and scream and scream until I'm sick if the board don't do everything I want'

Too much anti-'Arry sentiments on here. He's honest. He genuinely thought the deal was done. When asked, that's what he said. Get over it, people.

The twat is blaming the owners yet again while ignoring the fact it was pretty obvious we were used to get a better deal for him.

He's not blaming the owners again. This is a rehash of the original article. And we have no idea that we were being 'used'. Baseless negativity yet again.

Sorry lads, its a forum which will die without diversity of opinion. I've been saying since the first rumours of him joining started that, in my opinion, he is vastly overrated, too fond of the press and his man-management/ motivation skills are mythical. With the evidence of the last few months I think a lot of people agree with me. I have yet to hear him accept an iota of responsibility for any of our problems. He's very fair game in my eyes.

The forum is here for us to express views. When I'm at LR my commitment to the team is 100%. In the wildest of my fantasies Harold will prove me wrong, we will play as an exciting team this year and canter to promotion in a scandal free season where everyone loves us. Then I will eat my words. I'm going to try to tone my criticism down on here from the seasons kick off, because its too late for him to go now, more managerial change is the last thing we need.

All he needed to say in response to these questions was 'water under the bridge lads, we're looking forwards'. But the press love him for a reason - he always gives them a story.

And I'm a fan of HR. That's a difference of opinion for you and serves the 606 Board nicely.

Yes, the media love him for just that reason and I admire his honesty.

Also, I can't remember Warnock or Hughes admitting to starting and being heavily involved in the mess that HR inherited.

If HR fails to get us up, he has already said he would have failed and will move on.
