    Has opted to join Torquay:

From reading the article i can't help but think we could have got him, which leads me to think maybe he would have been a better acquisition then Kedwell?
He wouldn't have come with a fee, his wages wouldn't have been massive i wouldn't have thought (he has signed for Torquay after all) and if anyone else remembers him from his loan spell with us he was mobile, strong and had a great first touch and passing ability. Which i think accompanied with Birchall would have been quality.
I personally would have loved to see him back here anyway. I think Torquay will have another good season in the league as long as they find a decent strike partner for Rene as i remember he wasn't exactly prolific.
Oh and granted i haven't seen Kedwell in action, this is just based on my assumptions of what he'll be like.

Rene Howe did ok for us but only scored a couple of goals. Kedwell proved himself as a goalscorer in a very tight league where the standard of the top teams was very little different to league two.
On balance, I think we are a lot better off with Mr Kedwell.......

Rene was a good bloke, held the ball up well and ran his heart out. He is not a goal scorer however. Not a player for a team looking to get promotion im afraid <ok>

I certainly remember him from his loan spell, strong, physical and committed, I mentioned on the old BBC606 that I wanted him at the club last season when Hessy arrived.

However, it's a new season with a lot of new signings, I'm also happy with the choices that have been made this pre-season by Scally and Hessy.
I wish him all the best at Torquay.

I liked Rene but you need your front two + midfielders to score goals and since he's been at Peterborough, he's averaged about 3 or 4 goals for every club he has been at (and he's been at a few). Good luck to him but I would rather have Birchall and Kedwell up front. Those two will move all over the field and Kedwell according to Hess is like Bayo but moves around more.

He was ok but is not an out and out goalscorer. He would do a similar job to Akinfenwa and he didnt get enough goals for us last season.

Rene Howe will be a top player at this level next season. Great first touch, strong and good in the air. Will never forget how well he played in the games against Leeds and Southampton at the end of the 2009/10 season. He's got loads of potential and really just needs a regular home. I expect 15-20 goals from him at Torquay if he plays a full season because his record in league 2 is actually very good and far in excess of his league 1 record.

I agree, i think a season of being a starter every game with a constant team could make him a force upfront and he was always the playmaker for a striker like simeon where as now he'll be more on his own and scoring for himself. I think he'll get a few but hopefully kedwell will prove himself and yes i'd have to be naive to say the conference was that much different from league two, so i'm sure kedders will do well but i'd say he'll be setting birch up more like bayo did for cody.

Rene isnt good enough. he can hold the ball up yes and he was a nice bloke i met him a few times. actually helped him out of the offices at gillingham after he got himself lost.. but he was terrible in front of goal. you cant forget the amount of goals he missed. Kedwell has proven himself last year in non league and now its his chance to do the same in the league, and he is a gillingham fan!!!

Howe would've been a handy acquisition, but I think Kedders and Bircho are both better choices, given their instinct in front of goal
