Renault boss Eric Boullier plans to speak to Robert Kubica this week to find out the latest on his recovery, so he can begin to make a decision on whether or not he needs to find a replacement driver for 2012.
by all accounts he has feeling and movement, just a lack of strength in his grip. I suspect he'll be doing quite a bit of karting over the next few months, I remember meeting Johnny Herbert a few times after during his recovery from his smash at Brands just before his F1 career.
I doubt whether Kubiça will be back for 2012. I also feel that Boullier has publicized his relatively early deadline to present a better public impression (and hence get a better reaction) to a decision probably already made.
dunno, if he can drive I'm sure someone will put him in a car, a 90% fit Kubica is probably better than half the drivers on the grid, he's still fairly young so getting the muscle back shouldn't be a problem, if it's something a bit more problematic then a redesigning of his steering wheel could fix it. The only problem I can foresee is if he also has a lack of feeling in it that hasn't been discovered.
Sadly I cant see him back at Renault. He wont be ready for the start of the season. I can see him filling in for somebody next year though if another driver gets Kicked out/Injured/banned and he will have to kick start his carear again that way. Ironically the way it started...
I've said from teh start I don;t think he's coming back. Injuries like that will take too long to heal and for him to get strength back
Then there's the time that it will take to get back on his game once he is physically fit enough to return. I hope he does return, but I wouldn't be too shocked if you were right.
Assuming he's fit, I think it'll be a blessing in disguise if he leaves Renault. If they take him on for 2012, they will insist on options to their advantage for a further couple of years. If he ends up at another team, he will be in the driving seat (pun intended), and has a realistic chance of getting into a race-winning car in 2013 or 2014.
really? he's had a pretty bad accident before, and raced with a pin and 18 bolts in his arm, and won. If he's got feeling and enough movement in his hand, which by all accounts he has, then muscle mass is just a matter of time, and not that much, a few months. Normally the problem with bad accidents is psychological, I thik Kubic is made of the right stuff, he had a nasty accident at canada, came back the following year and won it.
This was a life or death accident though, Miggins and he not only had psychology barriers to get over but also the fitness barriers. Should it be a two year stint out of the sport... It could see his talent squandered. Hopefully not... but it could.
