With Alan Walsh leaving it reminded me of ' The Walshie Shuffle' and this led to other doings...Do you remember.....? * The Walshie Shuffle... * The Johnson Bounce... * The East End surge... * The Gibbo stride and leap at the crossbar... * The Murray dash... * The Benny Hat... Are there any others you remember...?
Carl Shutt falling down and smacking his head on the East End wall after scoring the 4th goal (the opposition eludes me) on his debut John Bailey scoring the winner (1-0) at Crewe and trying to run away from his colleagues to celebrate, but being caught after 2 yards Coppell and his magic disappearing act Basso's prayers Mickey Bell's magic left foot at free kicks
The opening credits on the HTV or BBC "west match" on a Sunday afternoon. Dave "smudge" Smith bombing down the touchline and being scythed down by Rovers' Ian Alexandra (I think). Normans big Roberto Carlos run ups and shots.......how many did he score out of hundreds lol! The Johnson punch in the air after a win........must look up win on wiki!
Ahh, 'The Walshy Shuffle', everyone knew what was coming including their right back but it always seemed to work. Apparantly Christiano Ronaldo used to get sent Betamax videos of Walshy in action and would study his moves as a young boy and try to imitate him. Not a lot of people know that..
Also the state of the AG pitch at certain points in time over the years The LC Semi against Forest when it was a total mudbath, and also against Chelsea when we beat them 3-1 in the FA Cup with Robbie Turner scoring twice. And the clouds and clouds of blue/grey *** smoke that used to fill the air on evening matches and drift across the pitch. And back in the day when we had proper floodlight plyons in each corner of the ground. Ours were actually unique as well with the inward pointing heads and for some reason they were known as Scottish lights. Didn't we sell them to a non league club ? Anyone know who it was and whether they are still used ? I also miss the old style goal frames with stanchions rather than these suspended ones that everyone has now. You used to be able to tell what ground it was without actually seeing the teams just by seeing the goal frames on Match Of The Day or The Big Match. Memories...
