In the dark ages from 1977 to 2000 when we routinely had our noses rubbed in it. Gubbed all over the country. Thrashings at the hands of Yorkshire teams every other season. Lock outs at our own ground. Away fans given the home end. ****e managers and chairmen. We've seen it all. But the climb back up the divisions has seen a number of scores settled for me. The rise from bottom to top, has seen us beat the best in the country on their patch, 100% win rate at Wembley, the top team in Yorkshire (still), taking over away grounds (Hullsborough just one example), successive good managers, and chairmen, winning at grounds we've not won at for decades. Still theres something missing. We can have friendlies in Europe (competitive games would be better) winning a trophy would be nice (Arrow Air FFS) going back to the Prem blah blah, but the one thing that has eluded the club in my lifetime is being Champions of a division (was only a young kid the last time). We slipped up with Donny and Luton, just falling short. But it would be more than satisfying this season to go up as CHAMPIONS. Perfect opportunity this season.
Long way to go yet. Going up anyhow would be good. Dunno if i could take 90 minutes at Wembley at a playoff final again though. But it's good if you win.
I'd be happy if we came second. You still get a trophy presentation, so it's a bit like being champions.
Agree with Arnold, the only way to beat the euphoria of 2008 is to win the title and this season we've got the team to do it. Then the other ambition is to win a cup and play in European competition. Dare to dream.
My dad started taking me the season we won the 3rd division. would be awesome to win the championship .... But theres a long way to go yet....
Real men always come second. Any woman will tell you that. On a serious note, yes, being champions is something we've missed out on. But getting promoted in itself is enough to satisfy supporters.
They've been in the top-flight for the best part of six decades. If you're as old as you say then you'll be dead before we even get halfway there
Are you a Leeds fan? Tickler just said he wants us to be like Everton. I imagine that by that he meant an established PL who are expected to finish top half every year and maybe get into Europe. I highly doubt he was talking about history.
I think you missed the point of what I said. I jokingly made the assumption that when he said he wanted to see us in the position Everton are now, he meant he wanted to see us in 5th place after 55 consecutive years in the top-flight. I then followed up on my own false assumption by pointing out that as he claims to be in his 50s/60s, he'd probably be dead before we could manage that. So stick that in ya ****ing pipe and smoke it, son.
Being champions would be great. City did it the first season I went to see them, about time they did it again.
I'm with Erik on this one. City fans should just concentrate on us rather than making stupid comments about other teams. You make us look like ******s.
