Really think we would struggling right now if we had stayed up in the Premier League , its so hard to grind out a point , never mind three points So for me going down was heartbreaking at the time, but a massive positive now , we will come back stronger as a backroom and as a team If we go up , we will be different, we will be clever , savy , and work the system better, dynamic and direct , In one word we will be FEARLESS
The whole season was a debacle. Buying players, them getting injured, The Jake saga, Steve Bruce buggaring off on holiday with Shearer thinking we were safe. I'm sure you can add more
Relegation was a positive because we aren't in that ****e circus. Only negative is lack of live coverage.
Positive for me its just the players i feel sorry for. Down to 20-30 grand a week. Its heartbreaking.
Really? This PL season seems quite weak, with the way Chelsea has dropped off, Liverpool's early season struggles, Sunderland's absolutely awful form, along with Villa.
We're not a yoyo club yet, yoyo means relegated, then promoted again. As stupid as the original statement sounds, I think he's referring to a bit of confidence in not losing all the time. That's the only thing that's good about being relegated. Sun'lan & Villa will be like this next season unless they survive!
Fairly sure staying up and building a stronger squad and financial security is better than spending a year beating up on Minnows.
The problem is, that eventually you buy lots of expensive players that are past it, from big clubs & fail to win lots of games on such a regular basis that you forget how to win. Sun'lan & Villa!
The key is to not make those mistakes, and instead invest in youth and good players, like Swansea, Stoke, and Southampton have done, and Leicester are beginning to do.
In an ideal world, but even the teams you mention have had their struggles. It's the old fine line that you need to get through, the right amount of experience & youth. Ultimately IMO we won't be able to be sufficient until we have the kids coming through on a regular basis when we're in the PL.
The accounts don't reflect anything with regard to relegation, it's disappointing that it went up, instead of down, when we had an income of £84m.
I'm talking long term financial security, not the debt incurred in the first few years needed to build a solid squad. When you get to the level of a Stoke/Swansea, their outlays aren't ridiculous because they have an all-round solid squad. As another poster mentioned, getting the youth academy in order will also help. None of these things have been helped - nor necessarily hindered - by relegation.
In which event we might have fewer injuries, without so many, perhaps we would have even been OK last season.
