I may have posted this a bit early so I've decided to resurrect it to see if there's any interest

I thought I'd post a simple quiz about those heady days of 1976, when we last got relegated from the second to the third tier.

The drought. The long hot summer. A Portsmouth born player scoring the winner in the FA Cup final <whistle>

Here's 10 questions. It's very easy to look up the answers so why not have a go 'cold' first....

    1. The last time Pompey were relegated from the second tier, which two teams went down with them?
Answers - Oxford - 3rd Eye and York - MAJR

    2. Who were the only side over whom Pompey did the double that season?
Answer - Leyton Orient - Singing Blue 3

    3. Pompey won more league games away than at home. Which Second Division side went all season without an away league win?
Answer - Plymouth Argyle - Singing Blue 3

    4. Who were the champions of the 4 respective divisions that season?
Answers - Liverpool, Sunderland, Hereford, Lincoln - MAJR

    5. Which side finished bottom of the Football League?
    Answer - Workington - MAJR

    6. What scoring system was used for the last time in this season?
Answer - Goal Average - MAJR

    7. Of the 24 current Championship sides, who finished highest in the league that season?
Answer - Derby County (4th in First Division) - pompeymeowth

    8. and who finished lowest?
Answer - Barnsley (12th in Fourth Division) - MAJR

    9. Which Fourth Division side reached the Quarter Finals of the League Cup?
    Answer - Doncaster - Singing Blue 3

    10. Waterlooville were knocked out in the 4th Qualifying round of the FA Cup. Had they won, which League side would have faced them at Jubilee Park in the First Round Proper?
    Answer - Bournemouth - Singing Blue 3

Hmmm 1976, I broke my knee on the hard ground in the summer of 1976, just 2 weeks before my trials with Portsmouth FC and never really ever properly recovered to allow me to play professionally<wah>

Most Saints fans on here don't know what it's like to win the FA Cup and I didn't want to cause any jealousy <laugh>. Any-way, I did make reference to a footballer born in Portsmouth in the introduction <whistle>

A very good year, 1976. And Bobby Stokes will always be my favourite skate. Is the answer to No. 7 Leeds, btw?

No.7 has already gone - Derby.

No.8, not Brighton. They finished 4th in the Third Division.
