MON's first black mark for me, Gordon was the best keeper at the club by a country mile, mad...someone is going to get a very good keeper for nothing:-(

but, do you know his fitness level, his wage demands and he was the best, is he still, we have 90 mins against Bolton to judge, MON maybe has a little more.

You cant blame MON, he never bought him, and he has just had 1 game under MON.

You cant blame Short, Drumaville bought him for £9 million, Short has just been paying him a fortune to lie on the treatment table for most of his time here.

We also have 2 good keepers in Westwood and Mignolet, who are probably getting paid collectively the same as was Gordon singularly.

The writing was always on the wall he would go, and no one has really lost anything, but someone will gain a competent keeper, if he can stay fit, for not a lot of money (only wages really).

agree with you syd and for me he was a good shot stopper but he always seemed suspect on crosses and did not command the box

Agree with this - we have 2 really good keepers already and whilst a third would be nice, it is a helluva lot of money to be shelling out for something that we don't really need.

Actually that sounds like a recurring conversation I keep having with my missus!

TBH, it's no real surprise to me. We have two good young keepers.
Hopefully just the start of the clearout, a few million in for a few of the others.

Agreed. I think there is more to this than meets the eye. Lets see who comes in for him now he is on a free. If he was still the keeper we all thought he was, surely the likes of Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea & Spurs would be interested wouldn't they?

If the only clubs interested are West Ham and Celtic (in the even more Mickey Mouse league of the SPL) it tells me that its more common knowledge inside the game than we know as fans, that he isn't the keeper he once was and may well never be again.

His injury track record here is one of the worse, if not the worse in my time following the the club. In almost 5 years, he has played a paltry 94 games in ALL competitions. If he is on £40k per week, then he earned £10.4m in that time, costing the club a massive £19.4m for his 94 games.

That's a whopping £206,400 per game? Even on wages alone he is not worth that risk.

Martin would never have allowed a fully fit, back to his best Gordon leave the club imo and would have retained him and moved on Westwood imo. That he hasnt tells me all I need to know about Gordons ability to play at the top level again.

Always a wee bit sad to see players released, especially of the standard of Flash.

Shame Jordan Cook never made the cut, think we all knew that was coming, and I'd like to wish Carson all the best, met him a couple of times and he is a cracking lad.

Hopefully he gets a decent Championship club.

Can see QPR going for him. Paddy Kenny is a championship keeper. However I can see Man City being in for him as they have no real back up for Hart.

I was talking about Carson mate, but yeah, I could easily see Flash at QPR, or back up at City.

Even Arsenal & Spurs may have a nibble, and whoever wins the play off final will be interested.

The only surprise here is Jordon Cook, he was very good as a young lad - I assume he simply never progressed.

My niece's best mate is the girlfriend of Trevor Carson and he is apparently a great lad so I for one wish him all the best. And I hope all those young lads just released, and Craig Gordon, go on to find new clubs and continue their careers. And I really hope that Gordon does not come back to haunt us!
