The club has obviously put them in place in players contracts for a reason either it was at the players insistance or the clubs. Our owners are no idiots and our scouting system seams to be second to none.Is this the value that the scouts feel would get us a player the next caliber up from what we had. the must be a reason behind the valuation. Facts are the entire team has had an exceptional season and to believe that the is not a plan to improve the team over time doesnt ring true it was only last season that the chairman said it was a three year plan to establish in the top 5 and he was going to invest an extra £180 million in the team. Surely that is still the plan lets not forget that the three players we are most worried about where not on the radar as potential first team players of any of the big teams, Whilst these have turned out to be astute purchases Where they the players that you would have seen a top five club to have bought. The facts are that if you look at who we are being linked with they are no longer from the lower leagues they are from the top leagues.
Main reason is to keep the wages down. FFP basically means we can't spend more then we earn and thus we pay comparatively lower wages then other teams so have to offer other incentives - i.e. if a Champions League team comes for you then there is a release clause. Problem is now is that those Champions League clubs have come calling.
The Vardy one is stupid though as he only signed the contract 4 months ago. He signed the day we beat Man City and by then we looked odds on for Champions League and a decent chance of winning the league so why put a small clause in the contract?
Next weeks rumours will no doubt involve Watford or Bournouth activating a £10 mill release clause for Mahrez!!
Yup - apparently they increased the clauses as well with there initially being a low minimum fee, then the minimum fee only being for clubs in Europe and then only champions league clubs. Never got rid of that clause.
Me, l'd give it one more season & play CL with a team that has put alot of faith in me & See how it pans out. Then l may think about moving.
... the release clause is a negotiation point between the parties at the outset of a contract ... take Kante ... he may not have signed for us UNLESS there was a release clause that he felt he could play well enough to trigger .. it increases his options ... if we had put the release clause at £60m then it would have been equivalent to having no release clause in effect and therefore a 4 year contract with he power to move for all intents and purposes wholly at the club's discretion ... Part of life I'm afraid ... I can understand it from a player's view point ... but it can come back to bite the club (and fans) ...
It says a lot that our players have got Champions League club minimum fees - no one thought we'd be in the position we are.
I may be wrong but wasn't his contract due to expire around about now so perhaps he signed that contract to allow Leicester to get a fee for him
... signed a new deal back in January ... wouldn't think a transfer was foremost on his mind at that point
... not not at all ... as I've said above, release clauses do exactly that ... but I don't think that particular contract was negotiated with a view to 'enabling' us to benefit from a transfer fee ... a four year deal on £80k a week was a tremendous reward for him and one that he probably thought he would see out for 4 years ... he was being labeled 'one-dimensional' by a lot of the press and also 'too old' to be a target for 'top clubs' ...
