Now I'm sure there are those, no names no pack drill but they wear Black & White, who will say,"Well you would say that", but I will say it anyway,"Its a fantastic feeling to just sit back and relax". Yes I would have loved a trip to Wembley or to be challenging for a top 4 spot and yes I want us to go all out for 7th spot, however, we are safe, happy and can relax. A week ago relaxation was far from my mind, nerves, fear, foreboding, dread all mixed with excitement, anticipation and optimism. For more seasons than I care to remember its been either can we make promotion or can we beat the drop. This season its the satisfaction of a job well done, the anticipation of how far can we go with this team and the excitement of how far can MON take us with his team. A summer awaits that I doubt will bring the big influx of the last few summers but will be fascinating to see not only who comes in but also who goes out, we may have he odd surprise in both directions. The only Sunderland players who will have their minds on summer holidays will be those who don't fancy playing for MON, very few I would guess, or those who know they wont be playing for MON. The vast majority will be going all out to make sure they can be part of his plans so more of the same after Saturday is expected by me. I wonder if Bill or Roger can get some of that white relaxing powder?
Yep of course I will go to the remaining games, but with relegation fears banished lets hear 3 cheers for Ellis Short (and SNQ) for acting when he did to bring MoN in. Undoubtedly SB was good for a time and he did unearth some decent players but was in the final analysis unable to make them a good team. As you say Syd in and outs this summer will make interesting watching. I am unhappy to admit it but the Mags have shown you can get good players 'strikers' even, and you do not have to pay a fortune for them. Their sale of Caroline for £35m was an amazing bit of robbery, Ba, Cisse and Hatem etc have been good acquisitions also. So MoN who are we after?
Sunderland just have to be happy to be in the league after the start under Bruce. That O'Neill managed to have you thinking of more for a brief period is a testament how well he's done. Its too easy to get downhearted as a fan and its sometimes better to look at the bigger picture. You were going down under Bruce, the damage from that takes years to repair.
Syd, I'd still take the nerves of a cup semi final, alas it was not to be. However I used to foolishly think when I was younger that it was better to yo-yo than be a stable mid table also ran. The yo-yo always gave excitement at the end of a season and at one point I did wonder if it was bob murray's policy. However, I'm really enjoying this season. The battle for 7th is fascinating for me. Not sure we can make 7th but an increase in our points total and a top ten finish is a great result from December. I'm looking forward to the games to come and some more wins!
I don't think it will do, TBH. MON has already applied the sticking plasters and shown what a good manager can do with whatever players he has. Then look at your team. In theory, you should have been lolling around mid to lower table by that thinking. Instead you've had a brilliant season
I thinks that wishful thinking on your part. I would imagine you thought it would take years for your club to achieve what you have done, espcially after been lumbered with Pardew...not exactly the manager you thought you would get. I would think MoN already knows who will be staying and who will be going. The good thing about about manager like MoN...Players will be attracted to him, unlike when we had Bruce. I think next season will be interesting in the north east. I am full of admiration what Newcastle has done, its been an amazing season for you guys. But even now, I would rather be in our position going into next season. Sunderland will be a different prospect, be in no doubt.
Sunderland have so much practice either being relegated or being scared ****less of being relegated, that we can recover from it a lot quicker than most teams.... practice makes perfect. Next season I will be happy if we we do not spend any time near the relegation places, anything 10th place or above will be good for me. I hope that MON will be able to take our current form over to next season, and get us challenging for Europe, I am not letting myself expect anything other than a relegation fear free season though.
30 players in, Total £120.8million 29 players out, Total £38.95million NET SPEND: £81.85million Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...0million-years-Aston-Villa.html#ixzz1qxGIUTGD Relax now, cos it maybe a hectic summer.... These figures are MoN at Villa.
they will have made the money back now with the sale of his players such as barry, downing, young ect...
Have to agree with this - there's a lot of Newcastle fans saying "You haven't really caught us up" but that's only because of how good a season Newcastle are having - they seem to think it's detriment to Sunderland (SOME do - not all) - we're only 3 points closer than we were when MoN took over - but probably 25 points closer than we would have been had Bruce still been here! I do think the 2 teams will be a lot closer next season but we have had a fantastic 4 months - other than the Manchester Teams and Arsenal, Newcastle and Sunderland have taken more points this calendar year than anyone - Since 1st December we are the 3rd best side in the country and that speaks volumes about our manager as we have spent no money in the window. It's been a great season for North East football (particularly the second half) and long may it continue
