Reinventing Football - five things fans would change
After asking players, pundits and referees what changes they would make to reinvent football, we opened the debate up to you.
We opened the floor for fans to imagine a world in which they could rip up the rulebook and start again.

    1) Ditch marginal offsides - make it clear and obvious
    2) Stop the clock and reduce time-wasting
3)'Ban the cheats' - punish dissent and simulation
    4) Change handball rule
    5) Bring in a challenge system on VAR

    What do you think?

Is the sport of football in danger of becoming Americanised with time-outs and all of the other nonsense? The international breaks are becoming way too intrusive and although they may give injured players a chance to recover it also stops any decent run you may be on at the time. All of these extra layers of international competitions, both club and country, are totally uneeded as they cram up fixture lists for clubs that probably would prefer to focus on our home leagues. Some thoughts:
    1. Move the offside line to the 35 yard marker and make a clear and understandable policy on what is actually offside (make it simple)
    2. Implement a 5 yarrd no go zone around the referee except for the team captain and a yellow card for offenders.
    3. Stop wasting time on throw-ins during the second half and if you attempt a throw by changing the thrower more than once you will be penalised in some way.
4 Time wasting is destroying the game and it needs to be addressed on many fronts and suitable action has to be taken.

Point in case is Rugby Union where the referee is treated with respect at every call and action taken against the culprits and the F.A. need to consult with the R.U. brass to talk about methods to stop the game deteriorating any further. There will be lots of discussion ( perhaps during those endless international breaks :emoticon-0136-giggl) on this subject but I hope it doesn't take us down a too radical road and spoil the enjoyment.
