I think it has been used in South America for years and it works well and all they need to invent now is a spray for keeping the players out of the referees face, but hang on a minute I already have some and it's called "bear spray". Not sure whether it works though and I hope I never have to find out because knowing my luck it was assembled by an angry Rovers supporter after they left the league (sorry gas).
