As you say, they are all entwined. It was a DNA sample given by Prince Philip that proved the grave of Tsar Nicolas 11 and all but one his family had been discovered near Sverdlovsk in (I think) the 1990s. Nicolas was related to both Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany and King George V of U.K. Plus Greece, Denmark, and probably everything else between here and the Moon.
People are out of their minds if they think there's any logical justification in having a monarchy. 1. Tourism - No. Just no. Hall of Versailles gets twice the visitors our entire royal residences get each year (so let's cut off their bastarding heads!!!). 2. Stops a presidency - So could a lot of things. Having a figurehead is about more than a ****ing celebrity to wield around. They shouldn't be the ****ing Kardashians. I'm fine with an electable position in the capacity of whatever it is these lazy, incestual ****s are actually supposed to do. 3. History - great. History of genocide and some of the worst sorts of awfulness humankind has ever wrought upon one-another have happened under a monarchical system. Think of all the thousands dead because our royals flipped and flopped over which church they ****ing supported. 4. Religion - Well, if you're religious, there's no point arguing with you. You've already lost on the basis of being a moron! For the sakes of the sane, the monarchy politically aligned themselves with religion, as has every bastard in history who has ever sought power or selfish glorification, in order to legitimize their rule and make the general populace bow before them as if they were the god(s) they know don't exist. 5. Notes - Maybe we can put someone who isn't a self-important **** put on our notes. The people pathetic enough to support them for any other reason are the celeb reading freaks of this world. OOooooooh, step on me your majesty Nation of sheep!
Excellent post JPF, could have written it myself ... if I was as eloquent as you. Mind you The Relic will disagree - and he ISN'T an idiot who fawns over some new-born rich bairn, he has a well-thought out and logical constitutional argument ... which I don't agree with ... but a top and sussed poster. Still, I agree with you that the French had the right solution to the Royal Family!
JPF - explain why the royal wedding got over a billion viewers.... Having a monarchy has zero impact on my life, but it's pretty handy PR for GB plc!
It's a good point to note they probably have more respect abroad than they do at home. Explains all those bloody tourists in London!
There isn't a right and wrong answer to this question. The French guillotined their monarch and have thrived. America has never had a monarch since independence but thrived anyway. England and Spain couldn't wait to get their monarchs back. And the only reason Russia hasn't got a Tsar was that in the early 1990s there was no clear-cut relative left when they looked. But they did look. The bottom line is republics work for some and others can't wait to get rid of them - and vice versa. There is no universal answer.
They didn't look hard enough mate, the great самодовольный в сапогах escaped off their shores to pastures new, he was last seen here in the UK by all accounts driving a van with French plates on it.. Funny bloody world we live in..
And the princess Katerina, the one not found in the grave? Last - possibly- heard of in San Francisco. But still, that's all 90 years ago. What was the direct connexion with the royal family that would have qualified Sapogak (or сапоrах if you prefer the cyrillic). I don't know enough about that.
Love it Relic.. Google translate that Russian name I give, driving around the UK in a van with French plates is the giveaway..
Don't need to mate - I read it and speak it a little. I just don't know enough about Puss in Boots. But the story of Katerina is real enough. It could be that those who could be found, didn't want to be found any more. I dunno. She wouldn't be alive - or nearly 90 - in the 1990s. And maybe any children she might have had just enjoyed being good American citizens? That's the life they'd grown up with - she had no children in Russia so if she had any they had to be born and bred in the U.S. Maybe they didn't want all that European royalty stuff any more. Who knows?
Your knowledge is your testament to life mate.. You are one man I'd like to share a beer with one day. I'm so into the Sleepy Hollow finale of last night that whenever I see the name Katerina, I'm just looking around for a crossbow Have a great weekend mate, 3 points tomorrow, we are all happy..
Joe, I don't know how much you loved the last exchange, but you're gonna bloody love this one. Sapogak in cyrillic is fine - I'm semi-comfortable with that. But then there's a problem - what is Sleepy Hollow? Is that t.v.? Seriously, I haven't had a t.v. this century, and with Sleepy Hollow in English you've got me truly by the short and bloody curlies. Tell me what it is please. I've enjoyed this - thanks.
Relic, you haven't got a TV? We should have a whip-round and get you a big massive TV for you mate. You're spending too much time on the wrong websites. They're far too informative and lacking in porn!
Steve White, chair of the Police Federation, says service is ‘on its knees’, and predicts end of policing by consent and move towards more violent style. http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/...g-budget-cuts-will-lead-to-paramilitary-force A quite disturbing scenario in my opinion
