<peacedove>Martin Atkinson is the culprit gave a goal that failed to cross the line in favour of
Chelsea .Some people believe that he should have set Petr Cech off and awarded Tottenham penalty
instead of playing advantage .Who knows what the result would have been if he failed to allow the second goal.?<ok>

Neutrals very disappointed with this game- killed as a contest with two shocking decisions. For all those who claim that the allowed goal wasn't crucial, just have a look at Lampard's disallowed goal vs Germany. Most would argue that changed the momentum and tone of the game permanently. I think it's ridiculous to suggest that Cech shouldn't have been sent off because Bale was there to score, because it implies that because Bale was in a good position, Spurs should be at a disadvantage. Say what you will, Atkinson will be nationally lambasted for that, and I think it's safe to say that thanks to Chelsea's lucky break, most of the country will be behind Liverpool in the final...

    Interesting points Wahay.

Yeah I agree the standards are very low atm. It seems 1 in 3 games has something poor in it.

And there is a lot of money at stake for these results too.

Doubt many neutrals want us to win though. Nobody likes Liverpool apart from us!

No way will everyone want us to win, we are hated at the moment. Geordies hate us for 'stealing' Andy Carroll off them. And Arsenal fans are getting mouthy saying the FA Cup is a 2nd tier cup now, of course the reality is they don't want us to win 2 cups in one season leaving them having to endure an 7th trophy-less year to the extent that they would have preferred Spurs to beat us had they reached the final.

The ref was conned by the fans and players celebrating, he took a guess, which is fkn madness as he has to see it go in. A lot of refs do this.

They make a decision on what they have heard and not seen, Alonso getting sent off against arsenal, the ref had his back to the incident, alonso fell into a player, no tackly at all, he gets a 2nd yellow and sent off by the ref who was not even looking at the incident, he heard the fans and made a call, what a knob

Look at Ashley Young yesterday, changes direction so he can stand on the defenders foot and fling himself into the air, a dive all day long, not even 1% a penalty, it was such a bad dive that his stride meant he couldn't put his nearer and left foot into the defenders leg so he touches the ball right and swings hes right foot left "Away from the ball" and stands on the defenders foot and launches himself. If the ref was actually watching and had some stones he would have seen that was a dive all day long from his angle, Young's right foot told stood on the defender so really it could easily be a free out tbh

I stopped paying to watch this stinking corrupt league a long time ago

If FIFA and the internation game is that dirty and we know it is, then the national leagues are up to their balls in it

Blah blah blah and If he'd pulled it back, sent off Cech and the pen had been saved you'd be here moaning he should have played advantage blah blah blah.

Oh and trust me,we could shoot the Pope and would still not be as disliked as Liverpool.

It must really hurt to be that insignificant. Still a small club after all, you just bought a strap-on to look bigger. And seriously, we wouldn't trust you if you were the Pope and Nelson Mandela rolled into one.

For all the bashing in the news about how the 'fake' goal was one of the worst decisions ever made, or the hilarious comment by Redknapp that it was "nowhere near the goal line", it looks awfully close to me. Obviously in real time it's a much harder call, but it's not a stonewall miss. The ref should only give it if he's certain and I think much of the discussion should be about how can he be certain that it went in, rather than how he made a 'wrong' call.

Also I think it was Brad Friedel who said that since the ref played advantage, he can only call back the player for a red card if it was violent conduct - which explains why they didn't get the goal and Cech sent off. For the decision he made - to play the advantage - he followed the rules correctly. Question is if playing advantage was the right call, and to that, I have no idea what a ref should do. Something mike riley (he's head of the ref association I believe) needs to clear up.
