Benfica captain Luisao confronted the referee after one of his team mates was sent off in a friendly. The video in the article appears to show him bodychecking the referee. If that's the case he is in deep ****. The position of the referee on the floor was quite comical though but it does look like he got knocked out. Personally I can't see a referee diving. Luisao could get a very long suspension for this. http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/oddbal...-a-dive-after-luisao-knock-down#ixzz23NI8ls7l
Well, if they are starting to do that in Portugal, and it becomes acceptable, then it'll spread to the rest of Europe and then the World in a matter of a couple of seasons. It doesn't matter whether the Ref made more of it or not, you simply don't push a referee. The time will come when all decisions are made by techno-systems in the stands and the Ref will just convey these to the players. Then there will be nobody to argue with, and the players will have to just get on with playing football, and stop bleating.
Well that was strange, and in a friendly! The ref abandoned the match and unsurprisingly Benfica criticised him instead of one of their best players. But anyway I'm sorry to say that the "ref barge" seems to be in vogue at the moment in some places in Europe and the Spanish Olympic team seemed to be the experts.
My question is; Why would a referee dive!? Looks to me like the player made contact. You can't touch a referee full stop. He should get a lengthy ban
Exactly. I'm a referee myself, and I although i haven't been in a situation like this (thankfully!). If that did happen to me, I would do my upmost to get the player suspended for a long time. If/when found guilty, he will probably get banned for months. You can and will get sent off for calling a referee a cheat and you get at least a 3 game ban for that so he can expect a lengthy ban. And it was in a friendly for ****s sake. Luisao is a complete idiot.
I just wish the FA (if FIFA or UEFA haven't the balls to do it) bring in proper punishment for anyone showing dissent to a referee. It is a nightmare watching players do this and I coach a young team of 11 year olds and it makes it harder to stop them questioning referee decisions.
I was refereeing in a tournament a few weeks back and in one half of football I showed 6 yellows and a red and it was U13 for gods sake! And the red was for a player called me a cheat. he looked absolutely stunned when I gave him a straight red, but I do not tolerate being called a cheat. I would rather be called a ****ing moron. Not aiming this at you FLT, but some coaches I come across either are completely clueless and don't know the laws of the game properly, or don't tell their players about dissent. The player who called me a cheat didn't even expect a yellow, never mind a red. The coach was entirely to blame and then made made matters 100 times worse by calling me every name under the sun, so that everyone heard. I consequently told him to **** off (obviously I didn't use those exact words). I made him sit in the changing rooms for the rest of the game!
Great, just more proof (if it was needed) that football brings out the very worst in human nature, in complete contrast to the Olympics (the match with both badminton teams trying to lose excepted).
That Luisao is a big twit. In Portugal there is no respect for referee's,fans shout things at the referee's and linesman even before the game has started.
