    Should the system be changed?

Sometimes the punishment outweighs the crime with sending offs being major game changers is it right that players should be sent off the pitch for relatively minor crimes?

As an example: Ivanovich's tackle yesterday. Minor and possibly assisted by his opponent; last man for sure but should he really have been sent off for that. Maybe a 'last man' foul anywhere on the pitch should be a pen'?

And then we have instances of 2 innocuous yellows leading to a sending off. Maybe a one match ban the next game would be better?

Same with straight reds for really bad misdemeanors; maybe a 3 match ban for the next three games?

I'm not biased here: I genuinely take little pleasure when we win games against 10 men much preferring a fair battle.

    Any thoughts?

Bloo--I agree with your thinking! I first watched the Blues in 1959 and being sent off in the next 10 years was something I only witnessed in less than a handfull of occasions. Every week now there are several reds in the Prem. The real issue which the FA have to confront is , since the early 60's the price of watching a game has gone sky high and punters having paid top dollar and do not want to see their indulgence ruined by Clattenbergs doing things like we saw yesterday!
They used to say the best refs were the ones you never saw!

I think you have got this wrong. Players cheat because the penalties are too light. Look at how many don't get a second yellow card - they play very differently after the first one. If you want to stop cheating send more off - they will soon learn.

A single goal can change the course of a game, so its easily worth a yellow to avoid it. It ought to be a penalty and a red - then Ivanovic would have had nothing to gain from the foul and he wouldn't have risked it.

In the old days they didn't have show ponies like Clattencnut in the game.
