It's actually happened. Rafa's gone to Chelsea. Only up to the end of the season though! How does everyone feel? http://www.chelseafc.com/news-article/article/2987554/title/benitez-appointed
I would of thought if he really thought he could manage us again he wont take it. Its becuase of him we became rivals with Chelsea. I am not sure how I feel if he became Chelsea manager.
We have to respect the fact that he is out of work and is free to look at this job, it's not like he left us to go there. I can't wish him well as I want to to finish above Chelsea however unlikely that may be.
He has the right to go for a top job if it's offered to him, but I think it might finally sever the link between him and LFC. Wonder if MFG will become a Chav?
Don't give a damn. Seems it'd be a Hiddink role anyway. Respect him for his time with us but we all have to move on.
I'd be close to tears and Chelsea would eventually become the best team in Europe which they don't deserve with their owner and a minority of their plastic fans.
It's a win win for Rafa: gets him back at the top of football; if he is successful he adds honours to his CV if not it won't damage his reputation because its normal behaviour for Abramovich. I don't think anyone can dispute his love for our club and we left him not the other way around. His job is to manage and he's one of the best so deserves to be at a big club (no matter how they got that way. As I say; my only disappointment would be if he had been in talks before RDM was sacked. Managers have a hard enough job without stabbing each other in the back. Anyway, good luck to him but now he's a rival I can't wish him success.
Benitez did a very good job for Liverpool in the main, albeit he lost his way a bit towards the end imo. He did a poor job at Inter though & there's no guarantee he'll do a great job at Chelsea. Not sure he'd take kindly to Abramovich buying him players & then insisting that they're played. Benitez is a control freak by nature & I can't see the Chelsea job being for him beyond a short term deal.
I honestly don't think he'll get on well at Chelsea, the supporters already seem to be against him, and that could seep through to the players. And to be frank, Rafa is far more than just a 'short-term' manager. If the fans and owners get on his side and allow him to build something I'd be worried.
Another issue is that Rafa was never a players manager: the Chelsea lot especially the old guard seem to need someone to hold their d*cks & tell then they're special. So I don't understand Abramovich's thinking: If this is short term it won't work because Rafa won't stroke the right ego's in the current dressing room the way RDM did. So you have an AVB situation again. If its long term then a lot of these old guard have to go which means a certain amount of transition and patience which the Russian doesn't appear to have. Will be interesting how it pans out.
I think Rafa could be decent at Chelsea, still rate him as a top manager given the right backroom setup and time to work the team into what he wants... Oh wait, Chelsea.
True enough mate, Benitez will be their 9th manager in 9 years. Continuity is the key to success apparently, unless you chuck half a billion pounds at it, then you can change managers whenever you like & it doesn't really matter a toss it seems It wouldn't surprise me if City followed suit if they get gubbed by Madrid tonight............the PL is mental when you think about, makes me yearn for years gone by tbh.
