Have not posted anything in ages as working in Central Asia means it is a challenge to see any games, especially now we are in the championship. However I was in Moldova this week so tooled along to watch the U21 game and Redmond was a revelation, threatening down both flanks, accurate crossing, more willing to cross than repeat last season's party trick of firing high and wide. Is this change in attitude and improved final ball being replicated domestically or was he just able to play with such freedom because the Moldova back four were pretty poor?
Good to see you back posting Thanks for a bit more insight - we got an indication of how good he was from the match reports, but they can be dodgy so it's good to know he is looking great. Redmond appears to have been playing brilliantly for the U21s for some time. I've no doubt that partly it is down to the level of opposition. Frankly, in the Prem and even in the Championship, the defenders and the midfielders doing defensive work are streets ahead in terms of quality. I don't want to hijack the thread too much (particularly as there has been a separate thread on Murphy/Redmond), but for those expecting Murphy to come in ahead of Redmond, it's worth looking at the difference in their respective levels in youth internationals (though Murphy is playing well too, it's just at a lower level). Redmond remains well ahead of Murphy developmentally. And rightfully ahead of Murphy in our squad line-up. Of course, Redders therefore needs patience, time and support from us, as well as the dedication to train, perservere and gain composure (and, something you can't accelerate, experience) from himself, to meet his potential. With all that, all being well, I've little doubt he will be playing for England regularly one day.
