Daniel Levy says he's been given assurances by Harry Redknapp that the Tottenham manager is committed to White Hart Lane and isn't interested in the England job "at the present time". Redknapp is a leading contender to replace Fabio Capello after Euro 2012 when the Italian steps down, a position that is of enormous appeal to the 64-year-old. But Spurs are eager to keep the man who has guided them into the Barclays Premier League title frame, at least in the short to medium term. Spurs chairman Levy, who was speaking at Tottenham annual general meeting, has been encouraged by a recent meeting with Redknapp's representatives. "Harry has 18 months left on his contract," said Levy. "We have had a conversation where it was said that as far as Harry's concerned, he's very happy here and that he doesn't particularly want to consider England at the present time. Well, that's got to be good news!!!
Hi Pirate, it is good news, but I wouldn't think it means anything more than that Harry will see out this season with us. Assuming the England job is vacant after Euro 2012 I think Harry will take it, if offered. I suspect he won't be offered the job though, as I have a feeling he will be convicted over his tax case, and that the FA won't offer the job to him.
good..i like Harry the last thing he needs is a blemish on his c.v and a bunch of overpaid kunts who underperform and overtalk when it comes to the intrenational stage......i tell you nobody will get success with an england football team..the ethics are totally wrong..and they start with the FA.....Faulty Arsholes
"at the present time" is about as loose as it gets! its not "no", so there's very little in that for me.
If it wasn't for Harry's court case I'd say there was little doubt at all that he'll be manager of England by next August. In ways it would be better for him than all this commuting he currently does, but in other ways ... poisoned chalice and all that. I'll be sorry to see him go if he does leave, but we should be able to get in a top manager with our current profile.
That's actually a fantastic idea, KH...I'm amazed Levy hasn't thought of that! And, legally speaking (unless im very much mistaken), since the Sweet FA haven't yet made a formal approach for Harry, there would be nothing illegal about it. Yes, It would be blatantly and disgustingly underhanded, although i doubt the rest of the general public would raise much of an uproar if we mugged the FA in broad daylight...they'd probably applaud.
But would Harry sign such a new deal? He might, but if the buyout clause was say £40m, it might stop the FA hiring him.
if we did get him to sign a new contract with a big buyout clause, and the fa paid it,we could use it to help build our new stadium
