http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/95305.html please log in to view this image I know we've plenty of options at the back but I am still saddened we missed out on this target, could have formed a real partnership at the back alongside Dawson I feel. Shame we couldn't have pipped them to the signing but we're going to struggle when there is such high level interest being shown. I've been a little worried over some of our rumoured targets as I don't feel they could have lifted us a level up, this guy could have done in time. How do others feel?
He'd be a waste of our money. We've got some young guys, give them a chance in the Europa League. I think we need to step it up, and go for some big names, like we did in January, except this time get at least 1 of them
I think that we do need to bring someone in, as King's fitness is very unreliable, Woodgate's almost certainly leaving and Bassong's looking for a move, as he's unhappy with the number of games that he got. That leaves us with Gallas, Dawson, Kaboul, plus the unknowns of Caulker and Khumalo, who have never played Premier League football.
I was thinking along the same lines, with Woodgate not being offered a new contract and King's fitness sporadic as it is we could do with someone for the future. Jones is only 19 and hence wouldnt take a position in the 25 man squad ruling and would help with the home grown rules in the future. I sincerely hope Caulker proves to be a first teamer within the next few years because Gallas and King won't be with us for long. Of course Bassong is at the club but hasn't been afforded much faith from Harry and looks to be on his way out.
Seems like a good player and to have all the big clubs in England after him proves the lad has something. I don't get why Blackburn have sold him though. Didn't the owners say they wanted to make Blackburn a top 4 side???
Unsure as to how strong his loyalties are to the club, not that it's disloyal to show an interest to a big club like Manchester United but perhaps he expressed a wish to leave? The fact that 5-6 clubs were courting him shows that a deal was to be done for whatever reason and I don't think Blackburn would have sold unless their hand was forced either from financial issues or by the wish of the player himself. If they've gone for the money then I assume they're looking to reinvest it in several positions for the benefit of the team. 1 or 2 more years and Jones' stock could have risen even higher so I don't think there was a great need to sell despite the money being good for his age. As for them being a top 4 side, a reality check is needed I think after last season. They'll need several years of stablity and sound investment to reach that level.
£17m is the headline fee, going by the BBC. What with that and the £16m for Ashley Young, you should be filing for bankruptcy in about October!
Not too bothered tbh. Just another over inflated price for a young Englishman. We have options, that are in my opinion, much better.
And already firmly nestled on my Ignore List. As for Phil Jones, I can't be the only one thinking the reason MUPLC are willing to part with 1/3 of their summer transfer budget is not because they want Phil Jones, but they don't want him going to one of the other Premier League clubs who are courting him, i.e. Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and whoever the other two are?
