Redknapp looking to sign England flop

David Bentley, Tottenham, Queens Park Rangers

Harry Redknapp is set to raid his former club and make a move for David Bentley, according to the Daily Mail.

A number of deals are expected to be thrashed out before the transfer window closes, with Queens Park Rangers set to be in the thick of it.

    Unimpressive

The Tottenham midfielder has failed to impress at White Hart Lane since signing from Blackburn Rovers in 2008, making just 42 league appearances in five years at the club.

Bentley is out of contract at the end of the season and is expected to sign a short-term deal with QPR.

The 28-year-old started out at Arsenal but was sold to Blackburn in 2006 after making just one league appearance for the Gunners.

    Future Star?

In his two seasons at Ewood Park he scored 13 goals in 88 league games, with some critics tipping him to become the next David Beckham.

However, following a £15million move to Spurs in 2008, his career took a turn for the worst.

In his past two years at Tottenham he has been sent out on loan three times to Birmingham City, West Ham United and Russian side FC Rostov, making a combined total of 25 league appearances during this period.

just cant see Bentley producing the goods for us especially if he wasn't a big hit on loan at those other clubs

pre-spurs bentley would be an asset, but i cant see what HR saw of him in his few substitute appearances at spurs to suggest he believes he's the man to keep us up. loved to be proved wrong but i'd also be concerned about bentley and taarabt in the same line up as it doesn't exactly scream work rate (though adel has got much, much better in this aspect)
