Redknapp backs QPR to end Newcastle run

    by Daniel Prince

HARRY Redknapp says Queens Park Rangers are “quietly confident” of ending Newcastle United’s winning run this weekend.

Newcastle are hosting QPR at St James’s Park on Saturday, and go into the game on the back of five wins in a row.

QPR, meanwhile, are second-bottom in the Premier League, but have impressed in their last four games, including a 2-2 draw against champions Manchester City last time out.

Redknapp has praised his counterpart Alan Pardew for the way he guided Newcastle through their early-season struggles, but insists he has full confidence his side can triumph on Tyneside.

He said: “They’re playing well. Alan was under a bit of pressure like a lot of us come under when you lose a few games, but he’s come through it fantastic and they’re bang in form.

“They’re playing very well, but we’re playing well at the moment.

“The last four games we’ve played well and we certainly should have a few more points on the board than we’ve had the last four weeks.

“We’re settling in and players are starting to find their feet at the club.

“We bought a few new players in who took time to settle.

“We go to Newcastle in decent heart and we’re quietly confident we can go there and play well.”

Redknapp already has half an eye on the January window as he bids to keep QPR in the Premier League.

He told talkSPORT: “If you are cut adrift at Christmas, you don’t want to be going and getting yourself into trouble, but if we are still in there with a chance, which I think we will be, then the chairman will go out and let us get one or two players who could make the difference for us.

“We have got one or two targets, and are just waiting to see if we can get them over the line.”

Meanwhile, Scott Sinclair – who has been linked with Newcastle in the past – says he is ready to reconsider his future at Manchester City in January.

The forward has played just 22 minutes so far this season.

He said: “It has been very frustrating for the last couple of years.

“I don’t feel I’ve had the best of chances; I just want to get out there and show why City bought me, but I’ve not had that opportunity.

“I made the decision to come to City and fight it out with all the big players and it hasn’t really worked out this far. All I can do is re-evaluate in January and go from there.”
