Anyone see and hear him confirm he would of taken the England job if he was offered it when asked by Gary Lineker at half time. Nice to see we are his second choice. Doesn't send out a good message to our players if they know the manager isn't committed. REDKNAPP OUT !!!
He's always said that any Englishman would take it, so I don't think anyone's surprised by this. Pretty stupid thing to say publicly though, especially when you're begging for a contract.
I'm not surprised just thought he would never admit to it in public. They asked him about a contract and to be fair he did say about Levy's mum dying and how that's more important than football.
I wonder if the perspective that he's got at the studio will allow him to see the problems that starting with two holding midfielders against a side set up to counter creates?
he was rubbing his face as he spoke....indicates awkwardness..and the Dutch....poor do..but the manager got it wrong...should have started with Vdv and JKH
but i dont understand why your shocked KH...we all knew he wanted the England job....and if im not mistaen we didnt have an issue with it.....it was his mindset durin the speculation that bugged us i thought. he was asked straight up would he have taken it...and we all could have answered that for him. however i think he was not speaking the truth when he said 'thats it with him and England and that he wont take it'(interview after Fulham match) i think it will be clearer after this tourno if the engand job might go up 4 grabs again...and if that is the case i think Levy will get rid of him..or at least not renew the contract and take this year to sieve out our future manager whilst HR sees out his contract. just speculating.
Wonder how Levy will see it (though he has over things on his mind obviously at the moment)? Certainly not the most intelligent thimg to say and it was obvious the question was going to get asked as soon as Harry agreed to do the punditry. You can't blame Harry for the question being asked but you can blame him for putting himself in the position where it was going to get asked publicly. You reap what you sow and Harry's rent-a-quote attitude could now cost him the contract extension he wants.
Hi neutral here. In fact I don't like Redknapp at all. From my point of view it was an awkward question putting him in an impossible situation. If he said no he didn't want the job anyway he looked very bitter and disrespectful to the honor of the england manager role and Hodgson. Saying yes was going to make spurs fans angry and make him look disrespectful to your club. He said he loved club football and enjoyed managing Spurs as well but he'd have had to have said yes . What was he supposed to say? After all if you managed a club side and got approached by England surely you'd take the job. Managing your country is the pinnacle for a manager
i agree with you totally...he was put on the spot for me too and that was the most diplomatic response he could have given. he didnt get the job and he was gutted...i wish the pundits would shut their mouth....it was them who brought it up....not him.
A Southampton fan? Not exactly neutral on Redknapp, then! I understand what you're saying LG, but as others have pointed out, he's put himself in that position. He also could have dodged the question completely by merely stating that he was never asked, so he gave it serious consideration. What really bothered me is that he doesn't seem to have understood what went wrong for Holland. Not normally much of an issue, but it's also what consistently went wrong for us during Lennon's absence when we played with two holding midfielders, in my opinion. Nobody was dictating the play from a deep position and the defence only had a limited number of threats to deal with. When the substitutes were introduced, the whole shape went to pot, which was also something that we experienced repeatedly with that system.
i agree with the second bit..his managerial opinion on the match seemed lethargic to me..the Dutch started with the wrong team..when he brought on JKH and VDV for Affeley and De Jong..thats how he should have started and they would have got through the Danish eventually. Affaley had 10 good minutes and ive always thought he was overated and he is...JKH can make a diffrence if he is played...and the Dutch needed a cool head for all their shooting in the first half and i think VDV would have provided it.....Sneijder grew as the match went on...2 tough matches coming up...the Dutch should play to their strengths or they will get bombarded..as i dont think De Jong is much of a footballer.
Anti-Harry people using any excuse here. I don't think there was any other response he could have given.
It could play into Levy's hands, if he drags it out till after the season starts and see's how we're doing.
The BBC article on it is ridiculous though. We all knew, and it was an off the cuff comment, theres no need to make a big deal of it, lets all move on and forget it. I'm not a Redknapp fan but we need a little stability/certainty going into this season. COYS
Some others on here have been in self-denial on this point. Well, hopefully not any longer. I think it was always clear as day that he would have jumped at it, if it were offered.
but he never said he wouldnt NSIS...we all knew he would go...i was disgruntled at how due to his rising England media circus..........it seemed as though results at Spurs looked like a secondary concern....thats what riled me...i wouldnt begrudge him the job...but he seems to still be in love with that prospect and i think Levy smells this too.
Redknapp Out? Are you for real? and replace him with who exactly - oh yeah, I know - a manager who has won things, a manager who can take us further than YOU think Redknapp can.... ...ooops, we have done that one already with Jol/Ramos - and we all know what happened there don't we? While I do not think Redknapp is a great Manager - 4th, 5th, and 4th is a bloody great record when you consider we cannot attract the top players as we cannot pay the wages they think they should get. Yes, he is not perfect - he needs to learn to use the squad better, yes he needs to stop spouting his mouth off to the press - but he is the Spurs manager (until Levy or he decides otherwise), Redknapp is a great man manager, and I will tell you this now - players like Bale, Modric and VDV will think very long and hard about following him out the door should he leave WHL, Getting rid of him is going to set us back a lot more than you think!
