Can't wait for this book coming out in August. http://www.faber.co.uk/content/faber-to-publish-davidpeace-redordeaddoc No matter what Murdoch, Abramovich and countless shyster Yanks may think, football once belonged to its fans. Maybe again one day, maybe again...
agree, sadly it will be a case of well you don't pay it someone else will. until that stops happening and maybe get empty stadiums or half full anyway, they will always have the power as someone else will pay.
I'm not so sure it ever will now DD but I guess we can be grateful we remember a time when it did. I remember the day my Uncle said he wasn't renewing his season ticket (having been home and away for 30 odd years) and he said "It doesn't feel like our club anymore....it's just a tourist attraction. I can't relate to it when the owners, 80% of the players and 60% of the crowd don't even know what the Pier Head is." Money is the games only motivation these days...but then maybe that makes football as much a reflection of our society as it ever used to be.
