Today in Werribee, Big Red's extended fight for survival came to a sad end when vets were forced to euthanized the stout hearted horse due to the injuries he suffered in the Melbourne Cup. Complications arose in the off foreleg with medical staff being unable to control blood flow problems to the lower limb. In amassing an amazing 4,998,408 pounds in prize money, he stamped himself as the highest stake winner in the history of British horse racing. Ed Dunlop has called it his saddest day in racing. He stated. "Red Cadeaux has given us and the racing public so much joy competing with great distinction across the world. He was an incredibly tough competitor with a wonderful nature and he will be dearly missed by all." He added. “Red Cadeaux was a much loved member of our family and my thoughts are with his owner Mr Arculli and my staff, particularly Robin Trevor-Jones and Steve Nicholson, who spent every day caring for this horse." There is so much that can be said about this brave horse, but I'm just not up to doing him credit. It's best under these circumstances, to let his actions do the talking. He's in the light blue, red checks, red and white cap. Well back early, he comes wide in the straight. Dunaden in yellow is just in front of him in running. R. I. P.
Safe to say this lad became a bit of a 'cult hero' with his globetrotting excursions, really solid horse with a massive heart, shame to go out like he did but he will be well remembered.
Massive Shame!! Had the heart of a lion! It was like the English weather was not for him and he liked going on his travels- suppose the same for all of us RIP
What an absolute star he has been globetrotting. he seemed to relish a bit of sun and warmth and I hope that's what he finds now somewhere.
