It finished Charlton 2 Welling 1 at a very empty Park View Road. The Sun was good and the chip portions generous. The game was the usual ****. Goals by Lyle Taylor and I thought Ajose but the Welling announcer said Taylor Maloney.

    First half team.

    Maynard- Brewer,
    Marshall, Bauer, Sarr, Page,
    Dawkins, Aribo, Maloney, Grant,
    Ajose, Magennis

    Second Half team.

    Phillips,
    Solly, Ward, Pearce, Blumberg,
    Morgan, Forster- Caskey, Lapslie, Fosu
    Vetokele, Taylor

    Pluses Maloney, Dawkins, Ward, Blumberg,Taylor.
Negatives. Sarr- dogs ****, Ajose and Magennis- powder puff.

I hope you're not suggesting Charlton would have had a proper summer transfer window if there was no take-over speculation Royston.

People might misunderstand, think you're going soft on Roland <hug>

Good to see a true fan like you going <applause>

I couldn’t be arsed - incidents like that with Amos in the week have demotivated me further.

Met a lovely lady there and had a great amount of social intercourse with her. Unlike my Wife she seemed interested in what I was saying. I really struggled to get the enthusiasm to go. At midday I was still debating whether i should bother.
The atmosphere was not how it usually is Very subdued.

Bowyer revealed after the game that new player A.Triallist will be attending training on Monday.

Fair play to him - unlike Gobbo he isn’t even attempting to sugar coat it.

We are licking up the scraps.

I took a moment to look up all the easy-to-find attendance figures for recent pre-season friendlies against Welling United.
Found figures for seven of the last eight seasons.

    Welling 1.png

In six of the last seven seasons, the attendance at Charlton's pre-season Welling match as a percentage of Charlton's average home league attendance the following season has varied between a low of 9.9% and a high of 14.1%
    The average percentage is 12.6%.

    If the highest, lowest and average percentages are used to calculate possible attendance figures for the 2018-19 season, this is what we find;

    Welling 2.png

Putting it as simply as possible,
the lowest proportion of Charlton's average home league attendance recorded at the pre-season Welling fixture since 2011 is 9.9%
(in season 2012/13 the Welling game attendance of 1,827 was 9.9% of Charlton's average home gate of the next season)

Even if that low 9.9% proportion is repeated this coming season,
Charlton's average league attendance at the Valley is projected to be 10,202 - over 1,600 down on last season.

Statistically a proportion closer to the average of 12.6% is more likely.
That would mean home attendance at the Valley down to 8,016 - a huge decline of over 3,500.
    ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Naturally there are many other factors which will affect the number of fans who come to the Valley this coming season.
    • Whether or not a take-over is completed
    • The form and results of the team
    • Other factors (special ticket price offers, good or bad weather)
And the England game on TV this afternoon and / or the exceptionally warm weather may well have made hundreds of Charlton fans decide not to attend the Welling game this time around.

The very low attendance for the Welling pre-season fixture does not definitely mean attendances at the Valley will also fall proportionately,
but I would say it is a worrying indicator that they might.

This is just a mathematical exercise, an attempt to project future numbers based on past data.
But the numbers is suggests are not good at all.

I’m reliably informed that a good Charlton man I know asked two of our *better players* if they would still be here in 3 weeks ...both were non commital ...

I heard that Baeur and Magennis were on their way. I don't know how true this is.

Of the 5 most prominent Duchatelet Apologists over on ITTV, two have gone very silent over the summer (Jeddez & Seriously Tedious). Both have fled the scene of their Apologist crimes, humiliated.
Ivor has done more flip flops than a porpoise in the Channel.

That leaves Major Nigel & Jonkool....ignoring the reality of Duchatelet’s carnage til the bitter end.

A pal has told me that he asked one of those players to his face if he was leaving, and the player stared at the ground.

Wouldn’t be sorry to see Magennis go - after all we have got Igor “BUPA” Vetekole back for at least 4 games.

Think I read somewhere that Bauer has had a seven figure price tag put on him by the Club (either £1m or £2m).
So if he is sold, I would not expect to see the phrase "undisclosed fee" used.
Trust between the fans and the Club is still at rock bottom, so if Bauer goes and the Club won't reveal what they got for him, almost everybody will conclude they were lying about the price tag.

I'll be amazed if Bauer is sold for anything near to 1 million.

Another of the stars of our Welling game says he wants to fight for his place (in the queue for a burger at half time)

    http://the72.co.uk/109734/forgotten-charlton-athletic-striker-wants-stay-valley/

Wasn't the Burnley game the one where the fans' sofa got an unexpected re-upholstering after the full time whistle?
    Welcome to League One Igor.

PS: Looks like we are now known in media circles as Forgotten Charlton Athletic.

Blackburn have offered around £300,000 for Bauer. The player is desperate to go. Duchatelet the football genius thinks he can extract more.

In reality, Bauer will be sold and a loan / triallist will “replace” him at the last min.

To think we will get 2 M for Bauer is fanciful in the extreme. He is in the last year of his contract as are another 13 or 14 players. He will be sold, of that I have no doubt.
