Iâd like some thoughts from others on my mistrust of some of the new capacities being quoted by others about the rebuilt Ashton Gate. I think it is very important that we maximise the capacity and the hospitality boxes for one simple reason. If City do go ahead with this instead of AV, then unless we suddenly become mega successful and mega rich and a suitable other site without TVG and planning problems becomes available, we will be at Ashton Gate for a very long time. And this means that unless City are able to buy all the houses on Ashton Road to enlarge the Atyeo, WE WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO INCREASE THE CAPACITY. And I am struggling to believe the above figures. No offence intended Blagdon Mike. My understanding of the current capacities is as follows; Original Dolman when built = 5,000 plus 2,000 seats added later at front = Total Dolman 7,000. I donât understand where an increase of 710 will come from if we are actually removing seats on each gangway to create vomitories (entrances and exits) half way up the original stand. More likely a slight reduction. Wedlock when converted to seats on the old terraces had 6,200 seats; allowable usage later reduced by about 700 by local council because seats not numbered and thus it became impossible to actually seat 6,200. So only 4,731 in a stand that will be very close in footprint area to the Dolman? Even allowing for boxes this rebuilt capacity should be pretty close to the current actual number of seats as the rake will be much steeper to match with the Dolman. The Atyeo capacity will drop to approx 4,000 because the seats at the right hand corner backing on to club shop will be replaced by the new Williams. New Williams at a touch under 10,000? Is this to keep build costs down? I believe there is enough space even with 5 yards less between pitch and stream at back edge of carpark, to allow for pitch widening, to get around 13,000 there. So my estimate of what the capacity could become is; Dolman 6,800 / Wedlock 5,500 / Williams 13,000 / Atyeo 4,000 giving a total of 29,000 plus. As for the impact of segregation; initially put away fans in the Atyeo so no segregation loss. If we ever get to the promised land, then no change as 90% of away teams will fill it anyway. If Ashton Gate rebuild goes ahead, it must look forward because once done, no altering it for a very long time.
"Original Dolman when built = 5,000 plus 2,000 seats added later at front = Total Dolman 7,000. I don’t understand where an increase of 710 will come from if we are actually removing seats on each gangway to create vomitories (entrances and exits) half way up the original stand. More likely a slight reduction" Presumably better design and longer width of the Dolman will add these extra seats, maybe slightly higher? more rows in the wasted space at the bottom? I'm no expert but I don't feel there is any reason not to think it cant be done?
If we hit the big time ever, the above crowd capicity will not be enough,we would need a 30000 plus capacity.
EE has 5500 seats now but there are rules on toilets exits seats at rear etc the stand does not meet [no bullshit mate] and then segregation . Boxes in a new build on the site will pull rebuilt Eastend capacity down 4,731 does not sound wrong.
No disrespect to the figures quoted an extra 17k would be nice but you are basing the attendances we had in the late 70's where football was at a resemble price to attend and no sky tv. I genuinely can-not see where the extra 17k would come from. 26k is a realistic figure. You might know a few that will return but it is a tall order to get that extra attendances. Cidered I know it looks difficult to get these extra seats in but you only have to add an extra 10 yards to the length of the stand as Banksy says to generate extra space. Whenever I look on sites and see the footprints of some of these structures that go on compared to the sixe when complete to never question a architect.
But as the rake (steepness) of the seating will be greater and up to the same height as Dolman, the seating capacity will be greater and without any segregation with away fans in Atyeo. Box height at around 3 to 4 metres for the entire length of the stand only loses a very small percentage of seats capacity because the upper rake would be staggered and start on top of and at the front edge of the boxes.
Hi ROD. No I'm not basing anything on past "gates" but simply looking at the capacities of current Premiership and the "Wannabees at the top of the Championship". I'm not pretending to myself that our attendances will meet the new capacity straight away but we have to build a size that will be sufficient if we are to make upward progress. And if we do, the public will turn up just the same as they are at Swansea, Southampton and even those unmentionable Bluebirds. The Swans are going to increase capacity; if we ever went up with a stadium of only 26,000 we'd be back down straight away because under FFP, we copuld not generate enough cash to survive. Look at QPR with Loftus Road at only 19,000 even with a "Sugar Daddy". 30,000 will be the minimum capacity for survival in the Prem; for any reasonable success nearer to 40,000. Look how Liverpool have struggled recently with 44,000 against Man U 78,000 / Arsenal 60,000. The income difference is enormous. PS; ROD I never take offence if anyone disagrees with my thoughts. That's why we are on here to learn, to modify our thinking after persuasion by others and for some banter. Long may it continue.
3 to 4 metres up and footprint across for the entire length of the EE now is a lot of seats. rows are uneven between 28 -35 seats a row so that is four or five rows x 8 blocks at this point. its a small site to the back of Raynes road. hard to go high as the dolman [look very odd as well] which is why there has never been any real plan to. It would be good to know a bit more but you know who wont tell.
Whatever plans are in place for the rebuild you will need at least 25,000+ capacity to be able to compete at Championship level. The first thing to do is rebuild the team and ensure that wages do not exceed your incomings and that's why we need the bigger capacity to make us financially more stable. Look at some of the contenders and you will see that the real ones draw crowds of 20,000 or bigger and that's where the revenues come from to allow you to stabilse your revenue streams and your and the team.
"It would be good to know a bit more but you know who wont tell" He aint got a ****in clue mate, just giving it large, nothing more...
Spot on mike to bring the revinue required in, i believe you need to have at least 30000 seats to actually make it viable in the top tier.
The drawing issued on 5th Feb when they announced Plan B does have the roof of dolman at same height as and continuing over the Wedlock. Still drawings like that could mislead or actually not happen. We'll all have to wait and see.
No bullshit again but the club years back put in applications to see how high they can build. Due to the houses they cant go as high as the Dolman. Mr Huffy would confirm that if he comes back.
Bristol Boy is one of the fans parliament/working group for the re-development of Ashton Gate. Check Ziderheads, the style is hard to mistake.
its Ian Gay from the supporters club, thats the name he used on OTIB. He's always on Radio Bristol with 20 stone telling us how **** we are! Cant stand listening to the bloke...
