With all the doom mongering going on here, I thought I'd provide a reality check based on what we've seen in December. 1) We beat Hull who have since then won 4. Great result. 2) We got a late equalizer vs Blackpool when heads could so easilly have dropped when it became evident our much vaunted record was going to be lost. 3) Anyone suggesting they lacked passion yesterday could not have been at the game. Throughout the warm ups the players were looking over to the Saints fans, fist pumping, smiling etc. They absolutely loved it. The midfield 4 covered a huge amount of ground, often in sprints rather than token jogging whilst Lambert and both full backs worked hard. They cared big time. 4) This is a team who play for each other. The celebrations are team based, there's no egos and they play for their manager. We are a happy squad. 5) Connolly and Chaplow were key players for us when fit. We forgot about DC a bit because of Guly's form but when he comes up he'll provide something else. 6) We can be excited about a transfer window. Go back 2 years and remember the dread...who's leaving? what rubbish are we getting on loan? Forget that, we will be signing players who will improve us. 7) We're top at xmas and we all know what that stat usually means. 8) After Palace we would have sold out 3 home games this year. Add Pompey to that and games against teams like Leicester, Reading, Cardiff and other games when the season really hots up and we'll end up with a number of sell outs. It feels good to be at SMS now. 9) We have been producing player after player of the highest quality from our academy. It's exciting to see when the next player with great potential will force hsi way into the team. 10) Following on from 9, from the first time we can keep these players with our financial state and footballing improvement. So don't question the passion or the tactics all the time. Nobody's perfect but our set-up and infrastructure throughout the club is as close to that as it possibly could be for a CHampionship club with aspirations! COYR
My goodness, a positive Joey [ask if you don't know why I've said that]. Very well said. It's long been documented that moaners and whingers, who continue to carp on, when the evidence suggests that they might start to enjoy what's actually happening, actually enjoy life less than people who don't moan and whinge when good reasoning tells them when it's time to enjoy. Think on, those less happy people. You're wasting your precious lifetime.
Great post Joey, well said. I think that if you forget that yesterday's game was a derby match against our nearest and dearest, a point was a good result. We've lost the previous 2 away games against teams lower in the table than Pompey, and yesterday showed that the revival in form is definitely under way. As you say, Chappers and Connolly coming back, and whoever coming in January, top of the league at Christmas, things could hardly be much better could they?
Good post, and I agree with it. But honestly, the simple fact that are we top of Championship should be enough of a reason for us all to be cheerful.
