Ok some of you may think of this as doom-mongering - which is NOT my intention. We have had a dream start to the season and I am as happy as anybody here about us being 5 points clear at the top. However, the job is far from done and the fact that we let a 3-1 lead slip on Saturday is extremely worrying and only eclipsed by the spectacular Man U collapse. My hope is that Cotts will ensure that Saturday's episode was lesson enough to warn the players (as if they need warning) that they have to keep focussed for the full 90+ minutes and not think they have completed the job on 89 minutes. MK are certainly going to attack us, but IF we are promoted a team like MK would be among the easier of opponents we will face. I suppose what I am trying to say is that it is easy to enjoy the good times, but we have some stern tests ahead, and amongst some of us if we end the season as anything other than champions it will be seen as a failure and all the boo-boys will wake up and come out to play.
The boo boys are sat waiting for the first slip up anyway, nothing will change that. Cotterills honest assessment of the game was quite refreshing to hear and I totally agree with him that the subs he put on who are usually very reliable made a couple of uncharacteristic errors, We're gonna lose at some point, its just not possible to go all season undefeated. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29275583 Not much I could disagree with here.
A breath of fresh air is blowing around Ashton Gate. A squad that is giving all they can and a manager who does not feed us bullshit!
How long has it been since you walk to the ground happy and you leave it even happier, I don't even mind the traffic hold up on the flyover on the way home, life is good...Up the City..
Long May it continue. If we get promoted we'll get back to where we were 3 seasons ago. Let's hope we don't throw it all away again like before.
This sums up exactly how I feel The important thing to remember is that at some point things will go wrong - that's when our boys need us ALL to stick with them
That's true Simon, but I can see it now from certain posters ripping into the team and manager once that first defeat comes. Hopefully not for a while yet but it will come
If we expected everything thing this season to be perfect then we are barking up the wrong tree and although dropping points at Fleetwood (who?) was a disappointment it isn't the end of the world. This upcoming weekend's match vs MK Dons is the first real test for us to endure and show our mettle and I hope we don't get our expectations dashed. The result last weekend could be another sign that we still haven't solved our long term defensive problems which seems to resurrect itself when we are put under pressure and the back 4 run around like chickens with their heads cut off leading to the inevitable late goal, or goals, to loose us precious points. It's been our Achilles heel for many years and it's time to plug the leak before it becomes a torrent. None of our many previous managers ever managed to sort out the problem and we must trust that SC is a smart enough footballing man to see the problem himself and fix it and the result this Saturday could go along way to letting him see how we stack up, particularly at the back, against a team that could challenge this season. I await my Saturday morning wake up with baited breath.
This game is even more important when you consider that MK are 5 points behind us with a game in hand, which if they were to win it would be 2- If they were to beat us, they would go top. That 5 point lead might look impressive, but a win for us could establish an 8 point gap between us and one of our nearest rivals. One of those games where I would be happy enough with a draw. Both sides are free scoring. 0-0 then.!
I think we're also being a little harsh on Fleetwoods efforts. They scored 3 goals that would have been good enough to beat most defenses and keepers. On another day we would have won 6-1 but that's football sometimes. City of old would have gone on to lose 4-3
