Okay this thread is to do with any rumours with actual links to somewhere (i.e town are given a mention) and not just secondary quotes from another message board! I'll start the ball rolling with Rory McArdle recentley released form Aberdeen, was a target of Paul Sturrock in December http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/322081 http://boards.footymad.net/forum.php?tno=4&fid=27&sty=2&act=1&mid=2114706881 http://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=41576 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rory_McArdle
It doesn't bode well that he was released by Aberdeen and Rochdale before that. So far most of GT's signings have been players that have turned down new contracts at their previous clubs.
Good call Matster. People talking about Giles Barnes are being unrealistic as GT is hardly a marquee signing type. Expect some more frugal business like the aforementioned- would be neither surprised nor disappointed to see McArdle here based on what they've said. In GT we trust.
I have read them and it sounds as though he can defend well but is no footballer. Not one to fit GT's philosophy.
One could say the same about Sharps! He was developing, under GT, into a much better passer and more of a ball playing centre-half, but he isn't exactly a playmaker.
It is always difficult to judge Scottish football in relation to English but it is striking that he played less than half the games in Rochdale's promotion season and was promptly released.
...there are hundreds and hundreds of players looking for clubs why go after w one with little pedigree?...mind you he's a big lad at a reasonable age, so perhaps GT know something we don't,.....looks like Roland is keeping his purse closed tight though!!
Roland kept his purse tight last season too, apparently. Didn't do too bad out of it, did we?? And if it weren't for dropped points due to keeper errors, we could've won this league beating Swindon & Crawley, two teams who really did throw the cash about.. So, the lack of cash being spent argument is invalid as far as I'm concerned. Even then, we don't know what's going on behind closed doors. If I cast my mind back to pre-season last year, many were worried due to an apparent lack of signings. Again, we didn't do too bad! In GT we trust!
It is interesting to note when we signed last summer's intake:- Morgan-23rd June Jacobson-28th June Hazell-30th June Gornell-4th July Richards-28th July Regan-29th July
today in the star, uncle graham say he is happy to go down the loan route if necessary but would prefer permanent players where possible. a squad similar in size to last year is what he is aiming for. about 21/22
http://www.thepfa.com/transferlist Apparently Pablo Mills on page 11 is 2011 years old! Unless that's just a bug on my PC... Several players that seem to be the type we sign on there - young players released by big clubs. Blue and Amber seem to be keen on Gavin Hoyte. I don't know much about him, but he was in the Lincoln team which Lionel beat 5-1.
That is an interesting summary. To me it highlights the fact that signings tend to concentrate around June/July. Not surprising given that players & managers will be on holiday before pre-season training starts and, more importantly, out of contract players collect their last pay cheque from their previous club in June! Nothing's going to focus the mind and force a decision more than the prospect of not being paid for July! I was surprised we signed Hall so quickly. It's still very early for signings and, after all, our season ended earlier than we've become used to.
Not much of a rumour but certainly realistic - Aaron Wildig was signed (according to blue & amber, according to Twitter!). Good, if so. Here's one for Chris Gashead - we're interested in Byron Anthony? He'll love that, I could write the post myself. Only a rumour mind, so 90% likely to lead nowhere.
