http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...R-sponsor-Real-Madrids-Santiago-Bernabeu.html Indisputably, the biggest club in the world on and off the field. Selling naming rights to Coca Cola and upping capacity to 93k now to stay ahead of all the other clubs in Europe.
Stamford Bridge could be The Microsoft Arena pretty soon. Hope they fund the improvements/move to a new 90,000 all seater too.
If only we could enlarge the Bridge! I am very sentimental about the place and would be upset to leave the Fulham Rd!
The latest accounts show a zero spend on and plans, architects or anything to do with moving or expanding. Either the vote against RA or the failure to get Battersea seems to have put an end to it all.
Yep. Not a single cent and remember these accounts are for the last year. Seems they've called it a day. To be fair I'm not sure what the club can do. They can't expand SB. The council keeps saying they can but then rejected every single proposal and never gave the club their idea of what would pass. Then the CPO voted to not let RA get some of the cost back for moving and then Battersea was bought by someone else. Why continue when there is no solution. If UEFA really do start to implement FFP this could be very bad news for us in the longer term. Clubs with massive stadiums and incomes will just get further ahead.
Now I've left London, we should knock it down and turn it into a 5 million seat stadium with barrier standing for 3 million more. I mean it's all going to be underwater soon anyway. C'mon youse blue water polo team.
The Council really is the problem, they can either help or hinder or sit on the fence so as not to upset the Electorate, which is the usual method, and what they are doing. Now I'm in Melbourne, the contrast between Councils is huge. The MCG stadium is an over 90,000 seater now, and faced with similar space restrictions, with the full support of the Council they did the only sensible thing, they built the extensions by canterlevering the structure OVER the road. No problems, the traffic simply drives under for 50 mtrs or so, and an overhead walkway carries the punters in and out. Not saying CFC needs do this, just that there is ALWAYS a solution if there's a will. Fulham Council simply doesn't have the will.
What is the most annoying is the council saying it can be done but not explaining how and saying it isn't their job to find the solution. More than 1.2m spent by Chelsea on architects and surveys and they can't find this mystical solution the council is keeping to itself!!!!!!
I don't want to move away from the Bridge, but it really does seem if we want to increase the stadium size by more than around 4,500, then it is the only option. My personal opinion is that 4,500 would be pointless. As mentioned above by someone, if we don't want to be left behind financially, we have to invest in a stadium that will hold 60-70k. That won't happen where we are now, whatever the pixie council workers' magical plan is!! If it helps, I live Bracknell way and there is loads of land just off the M3 everywhere. Plenty of space for the new stadium
From what I recall of one of my three visits to the MCG, there is a lot more space in Yarra Park than Fulham Broadway. Also, they've ruined that ground and turned it into a soulless concrete bowl. Much preferred it when they had the old Members, Olympic and Ponsford stand
