Reading v Swansea City Competition - Sky Bet Championship Date - 22 July 2020 Venue - The Madjedski Stadium Kick off - 19.30 Following their hard fought victory over Bristol City, next up for Steve Cooper’s Swansea squad is potentially the final match of the season against mid-table Reading. Last Saturday, the Swans kept their Championship play-off hopes alive as Connor Roberts' goal gave them a nervy 1-0 win over Bristol City. Roberts struck from close range late in the first half and the Wales international's first goal of the season was enough to end Bristol City's slim top-six hopes. Swansea had to hang on after the break, with Bristol City's Famara Diedhiou wasting a chance to equalise from the penalty spot. Despite claiming a first win in three matches, Swansea remain outsiders in the play-off chase. Steve Cooper's side must win at mid-table Reading on the final day of the season and hope Cardiff City, who are currently sixth, lose. It is not inconceivable that they could catch fifth-placed Nottingham Forest, although the Swans would need to benefit from a big swing in goal difference in the process for that to happen. Forest are level with sixth-placed Cardiff on 70 points, with Swansea three adrift in seventh. The Reds' goal difference is +11, while Cardiff stand at +7 and Swansea +6. Sabri Lamouchi's Forest side, who have not won in five matches, need only a point when they host a Stoke City team with nothing to play for on Wednesday to book their play-off place. Cardiff are at home to Hull City, who need a first win in six games to give themselves any hope of staying up. Whilst the Swans were beating Bristol City, Blackburn were shaking off the disappointment of missing out on the play-offs as they eventually saw off Reading in a seven-goal contest. Sam Gallagher headed in the winning goal late on after Rovers had taken an early 2-0 lead through Ben Brereton and Adam Armstrong. An eventful opening quarter saw John Swift reduce the deficit for Reading with a brilliantly struck direct free-kick before Joe Rothwell restored Blackburn's two-goal advantage early in the second half. Sam Baldock came off the bench for Reading to head one back and then provided the cross for Yakou Meite to nod in an equaliser, but Gallagher won it for Blackburn with a back-post header from Harry Chapman's deep cross. Turning to Wednesday, it’s a must win game for the Swans. It’s probably too much to hope for a 4-0 win in case Forest lose by 2..... So a 1-0 win for the Swans and a 1-2 win for Hull
Feeling optimistic we will win but I can't see the others tripping up. 3-1 to the Swans. Thanks for all the write ups Taff
Such a long shot but stranger things have happened. Fine, fine margins. A win is certainly on for us but a Hull win?
Thanks Taff for an informative write up on the reading game. It may be your last for this season, but you never know ....... fingers crossed.
Yes, thanks for taking the time and effort week after week to produce the match threads. Enjoyment or chore? Open game, 2-3 but sadly, not quite enough.
I actually enjoy it. I used to write (financial) reports regularly in work - this is much more enjoyable, although the pay is terrible .....
Positive spin here 3 nil win for us and a# they are probably down and therefore no pressure a win for Hull Thanks for your pre matches too enjoyable reading
Have you, and a few of your comrades on here been on the pop allready? 4bloody nil ? ? .? Never know, it could be 6. .??? ,!!!!
Needs must ..... I stopped posting previous results and videos because of the pay rates, so doubled down
That’s what I used to do - but particularly since Lockdown and with the quick run of games, I’ve taken an easier approach
