Hi daib0 - very good read. Just need to point something out to you (before anyone else does) Ian Thumwood - who wrote that excellent piece on points deductions is actually a Saints fan, not a Pompey fan. We do have a lot of cross-board threads so it can be confusing at times.
yep, thanks, I just realized that point this very morning in PMs between us, very noble of him to write about Pompey in this way. Unfortunately there seems little love between our fan groups, but we've warned our RR members to be on good behaviour, or else !!!
To be fair daib0 - in 2010 we had a huge swell of sympathy at our plight and here we are again 2 years later and the sympathy has completely evaporated. The problem is that the fans are the ones who get the flak but the fans are the ones who have no influence in the boardroom whatsoever. The Pompey fans big gripe this time is that we all found out about Antonov's alleged dodgy business practices by simple internet searches. He passed the Owners & Directors Test, took over PFC on 1st June and was arrested and his assets frozen 5 months later. Honestly if someone wrote a book on all this it would be rejected as a work of fiction.
There's still sympathy for the real fan still, but ... you're right, a real hardening to general view of the boardroom stuff - now there's much more talk of 'put 'em in Conference south to let them sort themselves out' - didn't see much of that two years ago ... Still the championship has been much of a muchness this year, no outstanding team/s running away with it, so if you can survive getting to end of season outside relegation places who knows ...
The last few years have been very difficult ones for Pompey fans. Football clubs are owned by/run as private limited companies and their financial accounts are not made available to the public. Rumours abound - how much players are paid is not made public, it's all guesswork and the "someone who knows someone who knows" chinese whispers. The truth is none of us know. We 'understand' that player X is on this wage and player Y is on that wage - but we don't actually know. Even so, based on the rumours yes the fans have constantly questioned the wisdom and cost of "quality over quantity" and asked why the youngsters aren't being played. There is also the debate about whether the supporters should not attend matches, and stop putting their hard earned money into the club, a high number of Pompey fans have vowed never to return until the club is cleaned up while others are saying you have to support the manager and team. If anyone thinks that we all sit here happily deluded in thinking that everything is fine - then they are badly mistaken. Also as we so easily found evidence of Antonov's questionable business activities, including the fact that the FSA had refused to allow him to open a branch of his Snoras bank in the UK we do think that the decision by the FL to let him purchase the club is a questionable one.
Because that's our mid-week day always nowadays. Years back we always played Wednesdays, and I preferred it as you knew what you had to do after Tuesday games, but have had to gotten used to it!
Given Readings recent run of form coupled with both Pompey's poor run of form and lost of significant first team players I can only see this match being a Reading victory.
That in theory, but in the Championship it's well said that anyone can beat anyone. Hope Dave Kitson plays, the Reading lot still have a soft spot for him - nothing of the airy-fairy footballer paid over the odds, he simply does the work and the talking on the pitch ...
Good luck Pompey! I know your team is awful and I hope your survive. However Reading are not much better they have been scraping wins rather than setting the world on fire. Park the bus 0-0
I think tonight's game showed how the off-field shenanigans is really affecting our players. But I've made up my mind now - Kit's has to go out on loan!
We won't win another match for the rest of the season. course the 'rest of the season' might only be a couple more games. Incidentally the Southampton game could be interesting (if we get there). Might as well go out in a blaze of glory.
fair play to you, that was not an easy game for the Royals, one goal is never comfortable, and much tougher than West Ham or Brighton ... good luck, not only on the field, but especially in the boadroom of course. daib0
what a poor game of football that was! the only shot on target i can remember was the goal. at least our fans had some fun tonight, was some quality chants going on "were all going on a european tour"
