    The thread about standing.

Do we have a problem at SJP. I never see anyone standing around me but I have a stairwell in front of me.

I know at away games we stand.

    Just wondering

Standing isn't allowed. Much better atmosphere when people stand though hence the away games are better. I find that the people around me are stiffs that just sit for 90 mins and frown upon people who want to create an atmosphere.

Clearly safety is paramount and will be at the heart of any proposed plans for new standing areas. I'm old enough to remember the old days and nearly got crushed at Hillsborough in 1983 (yes the leppings lane end and South Yorkshire police were incompetent that day as well) so we don't want a return to that.

The dark days when fans were treated like animals. Awful period.

    What is RTG?

I like the idea of a standing return, provided we learn to police and steward it properly. Like the Germans.

I understand the pros n cons but do we have a lot of standers in SJP? It seems to cause a lot of bother in the stadium of ****e which I find funny they have enough gaps to look through.

    **** them

If RTG is Ready To Go, the Mackem forum then it makes some of our Mackem beel kings look lame in that department as all they ever do is rage about **** and obsess about us. Have to admit to enjoying the multiple meltdowns on RTG... Cracking entertainment and helps the popcorn go down well.

I live in Germany, just down the road from my local team's stadium (Vfl Bochum in the German 2nd Bundesliga). My girlfriend is an avid supporter so we frequently go to the matches. Tickets for the standing areas in the stadium cost as little as €8 if you're a club member, which is peanuts compared to UK ticket prices.

My experience of the standing areas is wholly positive. Even though we're technically in the 'ultras' section there is a lot of camaraderie and people in general are very friendly and accommodating. During important matches it can turn into a bit of a squeeze, but we always find people will move out of the way for you somehow.

There was a proposal from the German FA a couple of years ago to scrap standing areas. It nearly caused a revolution, so they scrapped the idea.

Standing areas have worked perfectly fine here for ages, so I don't see why it can't work in England. I get the impression people are still scarred by Hillsborough. But as long as everything is well organised, properly policed, and not filled past realistic capacity there's no reason not to have it.

I've been to see Ajax, feyennoord, Roma, Cologne, Hertha Berlin, Sparta Prague, Inter and Bayern Munich play in recent years....every one of those stadiums have standing sections, never seen any bother, not to mention you can buy beer in the ground and take it to your seat etc (not sure about beers in the standing area tho). If you can have beer at your seat in Europe then surely to hell we can arrange a section for people to just stand and bounce and have some reet good craic and sing their ****ing heads off !

Some thought will have to go into it, you can't just tell people they're being put into a standing area if they don't want to stand.

It's fine if you're reasonably young and fit but what about the fans who are getting on and might have some kind of disability that makes it impossible for them to stand. There's an old guy and gal near me that wouldn't be able to stand, that and one or two younger people with slight disabilities that would have trouble too.

It was just the norm to stand yesteryear before all seater stadiums came to the fore but a lot of people now are going because of the seating situation.

There isn't a problem where I am, but, I'm in the family enclosure so you don't really see that many standing for the sake of it.
But that's the nature of that part of the ground, it would be wrong to have continuous standing with the number of youngsters in there.
There would be a fair chance that some would see nothing at times, and I know from experience my youngest son used to struggle at times even when they were sitting never mind standing.

If safe standing areas at grounds was to be re-introduced into the PL, I hope that we would take it seriously and look at areas such as the Gallowgate and Leazes.
But it may not as simple as just imposing it on people.

Just found this about safe standing, it's on the NUFC.com page.

    FSF free fanzine.

Summarising recent work on ticket price reductions, safe standing and other topics of interest to travelling fans, the Football Supporters Federation (FSF) have compiled "away fans matter" - a free PDF newsletter online here.

PS: The FSF are also running an away fan survey based on attendance at games during the current season. If you'd like to help, this can be completed online here

There are no problems with standing where I sit, so from personal experience, no we don't have a problem.

No problems with standing where I sit because there is no standing.

I can think of one or two that would complain though.
