Reading have made an Enquiry for Mapps http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/watfordfc/watfordfcnews/9732950.Reading_make_Mapps_enquiry/ please don't go Mapps!!!!!!!
Will Baz still be here on the 1st of July? I think it's inevitable that Mapps will go this time. The annoying thing is that he only has a year on his contract.
I agree with the others here that with only a year left on his contract his value has diminished unfortunately, and £2.5M would be likely. Players values are based on not just their ability, but also their contracts asset value, which diminishes throughout the life of the contract. I hope it is more though!
I think 2.5-3mill would be a fair figure, he has a year left and is now a full international who is in his prime and in tip top form. I would happily shake his hand and wish him the very best of luck in the future.
Well if there was interest from Wigan and more significantly Newcastle I would find it strange he would go to Reading if there was any substance to these other rumours. No disrespect for Reading but I would have thought the next logical step for Mapps would be an established Premiership club with better players to help improve him further. Do we know what the Newcastle situation was? Rumour yes, but was the belief that the offer to us wasn't good enough or did Mapps not want to move up north. If the latter is true then maybe better pay and staying in the area are his priorities.
Reports today suggest Reading's new owners have given McDermott £15 million for new players so we have to hope the bid would be a generous one...
Maps probably put of the toon by that horses *rs* dickinson, "I know my mates coming"... blah blah, Reading a better option for him in my opinion.
Cheers NNW. It'll be interesting what offer, if any, we accept from Reading. I know Mapps now only has a year left on his contract but it may show up what a tight asses Newcastle are!
This all depends on the financial health of the club now, and it's been pretty quiet on that front for some time: Bassini is understandably keeping a low profile. If we're in a bad position, I can't see us getting £2.5m (which is about his worth, in this market, I would say). Surely we all recall getting fleeced by Swansea when we sold Danny Graham? That simply mustn't happen again. Still, I wish Mariappa good luck. He's been a decent player for us who has really improved in recent times. I think he could hold his own in the Premiership - I hope, unlike with Sordell, he actually gets a chance.
i hope the same OLM..he deserves a crack at it, and if the twat Williamson can get away with it, Mariappa has every chance of making a decent Prem defender
Kevin Affleck‏@affers1178 #readingfc did more that 'enquire' about Adrian Mariappa. They had a £1.5m bid plus add ons turned down. #watfordfc
Far from getting fleeced by Swansea we got a good deal! Danny Graham had a clause in his contract which meant he could be sold for either £2M or £2.5M (can't remember which) so we did very well to get the price we did! The value of Mariappa will be determined by the length of his contract. Next summer he can go for free, and in January he can a agree a pre-contract in Jan with another club if I remember correctly.
I don't consider £3m for a striker who got double figures in his first season in the Premiership, for a newly promoted team, a good deal. Fair enough, if he had that clause then obviously getting more than that figure is good (albeit very surprising - were Swansea feeling strangely charitable?) Still a fleecing in my book, whether self-inflicted or not. Graham was worth more than we sold him for (cf. Steve Morison and Jay Rodriguez) and I hope we don't end up saying the same about Mariappa.
Or has it been turned down? http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/9740991.Reading_make___2m_Mapps_move/
